The last month has here at RFF is filled with Threads about new cameras and expectations.
It sure seems like we are a bunch of spoiled children.
The M9, New m4/3 cameras, X1 coming etc.....
Every thread has complaints of what should be or what they should cost.
It''s been fun to read but, also nauseating.

So here I say...........I'm happy with what I have.

My 5D's are champs. I can make a modest living with them so far. Hopefully less modest in the near future.

The M8 for all it's shortcomings produces beautiful DNG's that are a pleasure to PP into my pre-vision of the shots I take.

The RD1 has it's quaint way of charming me into thinking I'm shooting film.
The 1600iso in camera Jpgs are filmish enough when there is enough light present.

Zeiss, Cosina, Leica, M-Hex when you can find them. WOW! there is a lot of modern M glass. Not to mention Legacy lenses.

An easy and functional way to mount Contax RF glass to all my M's.

I'm having a blast and capturing images that will be fun to enjoy forever.

This may be a bit narcasistic ........sure.............. I don't think so.

There will always be better and best no matter what the manufacturers offer we will not have the perfect whatever....

Is it not time to start looking at all the cool ways to enjoy image capture we have available?

OK, Rant is over :D

Yes I'm happy with my gear. I guess I just don't give a fat rat's ass about all the digital crap that is out there or agonize over which 50mm lens is best for me! I just go with what I have and make pictures.

I often feel that RFF is too gear driven, without enough real PHOTOGRAPHY related discussions to make this site worthwhile any more. I wish that there was an "Ignore Thread" feature here like they have over at APUG. At times there are too many inane threads to wade through to find anything of interest.

I have good equipment, but I don't feel the need to list it all in my signature just to impress the GASBAGS.

Im totally stoked on my gear, my used leica M3 and new voigtlander glass goes everywhere with me and I can't imagine wanting more than what I'm using. I've even thinned out my collection to keep only what I'm using. Now I am just loading up on film and developing supplies. I'd rather become proficient with the gear I use so that I can be confident in my own photographic endeavors.

Other than the fact that way too much of it is broken these days, yes. I love my Nikon S3-2000 and glass. While I still am lusting for D40x or D60, my Ricoh fills the bill for now. I've got two great 4x5 cameras (one view, one press). All in all I'm very happy and very lucky.

Adnan/Andy, the fact that you are content with the equipment you have shows that you are so busy using it that you have no time to waste on agonising on what you should have instead. It could be argued that you do not belong on a photo forum.

I'm happy to have what I do, but want more. For example, I currently only have a 50mm lens for my M6, but I like shooting wide.. so i'm a little unhappy that I don't have a 28mm yet.

Yes. I'm quite happy with the gear I own and use now, and haven't bought a single piece of kit in more than a year, I'm happy to report.

While I doubt there will be an M9 in my bag anytime soon, I'm glad to see more "full frame" cameras coming along. I don't mind smaller sensors; I understand why and how they came about- and I use them when I need digital imaging. But I like my lenses to give the field of view I have grown used to them giving on film, and it's nice to know that one day when I want to use digital more, there will likely be cameras that will mount my Nikon and Leica lenses and shoot with the coverage and depth of field I get on film. As long as the image quality is there and the cameras are good, I'll be happy. Meantime, I'm happy with what I have.

no i`m not happy with the gear i`ve got at the moment- would`nt get a fly high:eek: ahhh wrong forum sorry

as for camera gear etc yes of course, never been a sucker for marketing,
The gearhead threads are just part of a diverse group, heres how to deal with it, go and buy as many FSU cameras as you can for the price of the latest M then skite about it:D regards

perhaps this isn't the right forum for you...

and if you refer to anyone here as a gasbag again i will personally ban you.

Personally - yes. Tho I do pine a bit for the M9 (the first digital RF that I actually wanted) - I know that it is unreasonable for me to consider it's purchase at this stage.

Professionally - no. I have a few noticeable gaps in my equipment, where old equipment is either failing, or just insufficient. But unlike with the M9, I have a very real need, and a roadmap for their acquisition and their role in future profits.

I hardly ever buy anything, unless I’m replacing something that’s lost or broken. And rarely sell anything at all. So yep I must be happy; my kit is way better than I am anyway.

But I still like knowing what’s new and what’s in fashion or out, there are plenty of folk who obsess about gear here on rff and post good stuff on Flickr too.

Even if you're happy with what you have -- and broadly I am -- there are always two further possibilities.

One is something that is a genuine improvement. I never really wanted another M-series after my M4-P until the MP came out, because I wasn't that impressed with the M4-P next to my M2, and when I tried the M6, I didn't think that the meter alone was worth the money.

The other is that something allows or encourages you to take pictures that you couldn't before, or that you find yourself uniquely comfortable with it. Thus, when the 75/2 Summicron came out, I didn't have a 75 and I REALLY liked the results, so I bought the review sample. The 24/1.4 Summilux on the M8.2 was a similar revelation.

Admittedy I am in the unusual position of (a) commonly receiving a lot of the latest and best equipment for review and (b) being able to justify my equipment against the business.

Overall, though, I'd say that there is very little I want in the way of equipment, apart from the M9 and a few Leica lenses that I have tried but cannot afford (especially the WATE and a Noctilux).

Cheers,

R.

I'm very happy with my current camera (Mamiya 6). The image quality is stunning and I have every single lens ever made for it - yes, all three of them!!
Desire for other cameras comes and goes - I fancied an M9, but when I look at the photo's I get from my Mamiya I wonder if there is any point - the images from the M9 would have to be pretty bloody amazing to even approach the quality of the Mamiyas.
I used to have SLR's but then I got serious about photography - now it's rangefinders all the way baby :D

Cheers
Simon

More than happy with M3 for 50 & 90, Canon P for 35 / 50, CLE for 28 and 40 and T3 for walk about and business trips. I do miss digital at times for macro and events. Maybe a D700 and some fast primes is in the pipeline, M9 not really at that price a digital ZI definitely assuming it's at least at 2500-3000 range. Got tired of waiting for Nikon to move ......

Are you happy with what you have?

Yes I am:

For digital I've made peace with my M8 and have learned to accept it's shortcomings and for day to day film shooting my OM system is more than adequate.

For low light shooting I have the fortunate choice of M2, M3 or my Ikon to use with a couple of very fast lenses in 35mm and 50mm ... Nokton 1.2 and Canon 1.2!

If I feel like taking it to the extreme I have a Crown Graphic for that occasional 4x5 hit and my Bronica RF645 never stops amazing me. I've added a Hasselblad to my MF armoury and although I haven't had a chance to use it yet, I know I am going to like it!

One problem though ... I dont want to give the Bessa 667 back to Mainline Photo even though my two weeks are now up. It's just that good ... and my Domke 5Xb will seem very empty without it as will my life! :p

I'm more than content with my stuff, most of which gets little use, but,is there when I need or want it............Robin

Nope. My Nokton 50/1.5 is broken and off for repairs so I'm stuck with an Industar 51 on my M2. Like the size, not a huge fan of how it draws.

I like the Nokton, but I wish it was a Zeiss 50/2 Planar at times.

I love my Canonet but it's falling apart.
