I'm jealous 2manee paid so little. I have a Matchmatic someone gave me for postage to match the LC3 meter I found in a junkbox. The meter works but something about it bothers me. I use a GE EV meter instead. My spot meter is also in EV. My initial research into what the heck the LC3 was tryign to tell me helped me understand EV. I now use it for everything, even pinhole exposure calculations. I really like it. Somehow I got two entire rolls of double exposures. I was sure it had a problem. Being a Harry Potter camera, my 11 year old said it didn't work for me 'because I was a Muggle' (non-magical person).

I was very careful with the third roll and they came out fine, some of my favorite pics so far (maybe that's not saying much!) 4th roll was fireworks at night, and they were fine too.

I recently bought two more early-mid 50's plain C3's from a guy at work because I had too much money in my pocket. Haven't tried them yet, but they focus beautifully and shutters seem to work.

The first 3 flying disc dog pics are grossly over processed. I was in a hurry and getting frustrated getting them under 200k each with software I wasn't familiar with so they suffered.

The two portraits are 'ok', processing-wise anyway.
 
Question -

I wanted to check focus on a recently acquired 50's C3. I made a piece of ground glass, cut it small enough to fit flush in the film gate, and held it in place with a rubber band.

I usually read about setting focus for infinity or very far. I would think that is the least critical distance, where DOF would give one a lot of leeway.

I was disappointed at how far off the RF was at close distance. I focussed on edge of a short wall (vertical line) so the RF aligned the split images at 3 feet (minimum focus) by moving back & forth with the lens preset to 3'. I then looked at the ground glass at a sheet of paper with printing taped to the wall. I found the clearest focus holding a magnifier in front of the ground glass was actually about 5.5 feet. Hopefully the actually position of the magnifier (in lieu of loupe) is an issue between my eye and the GG and doesn't affect interpretation of the actual focus on the GG.

Maybe a check at infinity will reveal something , but before I change anything I thought I'd ask if there is any concurrence that accuracy at close focus would be more critical. Maybe it's off at infinity too.

I tried this with some folders too, and was pretty disappointed with what I found...so I wonder if it's me or the reason people get rid of old cameras!

Thanks, and hey, now I know I can put a cold light on the back of a C3 like the Crown Graphic Graflite and make an enlarger out of it ;O) !
 
I got the gallery thing figured out, although the server apparently doesn't make 'retro entries to list 'My Gallery' in previous posts, although Avatar creation does travel to previous posts.

Where I believe the ZZ is your RFF "User ID". How do you know your user ID? Dunno. IIRC it used to be displayed near your avatar in each post.

0) I'm used to being just a number...har-har.

1) First I substituted my username for 'ZZ' and it just threw me into the everybody's gallery area.

2) I pointed at my Avatar or username, I forget, which both have hypertext associated with them and noted a pop-up line with html appeared a the bottom of the screen (at least in Internet Explorer 6 anyway). That gave me the numbah. It wasn't 9...9...9...9...9...

There is a great pic of the dog and my daughter, but my wife & I might as well be part of a witness protection program regarding posting family pics :O) - sorry so repressed...

Maybe this weekend I'll add some others.

I have two more black ones, with manual copyrights of I think 1952 and 1954.

One manual has photos of a woman holding the camera throughout.

The other manual has sketches instead of photos, and the woman is different, and so is the shutter.

I'm eager to try the other ones out, but what then?

How About the C-4 and C-44 users? I know there is at leaast one c-4 owner (nwcanonman?).

Nice lenses attached to a modern body makes for some nice images. I am in the process of hunting 35mm and 100 mm Cintagon lenses made by Steinheil o fit my C-44.

It could be neat to have an Argus section.
 
An Argus section would be nice to have.
I currently have a multitude of C3s, C4s (including a Geiss conversion), C44s, a C44r, several A4s and a C20. All told about 2 dozen and I'm not even scratching the surface of all the variants.
 
I have 4 C4's, a C44, and 13 C3/Matchmatics. Two of the C4's were given an untimely death trying to clean the shutter, oooopps. The others all work great, but I still goof once in a while and give my finger a good whack using the C3's.
 
Wait, wait! Those aren't dead yet ! They could still be pinhole conversions and look cool.

I had a Kodak 35RF that someone cleaned the front lens too many times with steel wool, so I pinholed it, leaving everything external intact for looks. With the lens barrel there, however, there was a 'porthole' vignette look. I removed it on the next adaptation.

I removed the lens cells and used the shutter until I got doublesided tape on the shutter leaves...then poked them out.

Oh, and remember, those of you with closer-to-many than closer-to-one Argus...Argus was supposedly a Greek mythological beast with 100 eyes. Is 100 Arguses like a google in math?
