It's not too early to start thinking about what camera you are going to shoot for Argust 13th (that day in August which corresponds with the last two digits of the year). I'd like to think I'll have my Dad's old CC fixed by then, but if not, there's a half dozen bricks I can choose from. And a few A's thrown in. Or maybe I'll find me a decent TLR in my favorite junktique store.

Here's one from Argust 12th to get you thinking (C-3, 35mm Sandmar, Yellow Filter, Kodak 100 T-Max).

My C-3 and a roll of 100 T-MAX. farleymac how does the 35mm Sandmar compare to the 50mm and do you use the optional viewfinder?

David

Well, David, it's wider 😀 And yes, I do use the aux finder for framing the shot. I figure if a good friend is going to give me one, I better use it. The 35 is fine, works well with color or B&W. Using contrast filters with B&W helps, and then remembering to remove them when shooting color helps even more.

Whenever the 35mm and viewfinder are listed on the bay the price always exceeds my photo allowance. I do see just the lens alone at a better price, is there another way to go on the viewfinder? I have zero experience with external viewfinders and there use.

Agreed much better without filter:^) Photo #1 is great, I need to get a yellow filter.

What's great about the Sandmar lenses, David, is they take Series V filters, which you can sometimes find a set of them with the holders. About the only time I don't use contrast filters when shooting B&W is if I'm using Kodak BW400CN. Otherwise, my favorite filter is orange. Doesn't darken the sky too much, like the red will.

A good substitute for the finder would be one that came with an auxiliary lens set for a rangefinder, such as a Yashica. But then you'd have to have a C-3 with the accessory shoe, and I don't think the shoe is a standard size.

Keep looking, you never know where a set of Sandmar's and finder will show up.

The C-3 I am using now does not have a accessory shoe but I have another that needs to be put back together that has one. Also have a Yashica MG-1 thats waiting to be finished will compare their shoe sizes tomorrow.

Will keep my eye out for a Sandmar set. Would the Yashica finder have the same framing lines as the Sandmar?

Thanks for your help.
David

The finder for the Sandmar lenses has a flip-down mask to go from 35mm to 100mm. The Yashica aux lenses are 37.7mm, and 58.4mm, so you would have to guess on the long view. You could I suppose get one of those Soviet made Zeiss copies of the turret finder, or one of the finders that Argus made for the C-44. Better yet, get a complete C-44 outfit, and be done with it.

Found a site explaining the different lenses available for the C-3.

Oh. it's been a lovely weekend, David. I'm in the middle of rearranging my apartment, so all the photo gear is piled up in one corner. I had to go run some errands, and on the way back I stopped in the antique mall, and picked up a clean Argoflex Super 75 with instruction manual. It wasn't in the plans, but I figured Argust 13th was coming up, and I don't have one of the 620 models.

I had inspected the interior while at the store, so it was a surprise to me when upon opening the back at home to see if a 120 spool would fit in the film chamber, the lock tab broke off. Now I'll have to get another camera just for the back.

One thing I haven't mentioned, is the Geiss Modified C-4 that was designed to take Enna Werk Lithagon interchangeable lenses. But the lenses and finder are hard to come by, and usually command a decent price. Sometimes though, you can find a set that is being sold from someones estate.

Thanks. I had already put a black Griptac kit on my '49, but I liked the feel of my Matcmatic's shutter release and lens barrel more. When I picked up this Standard, I figured I might as well do a different scheme on it. I only wish Griptac came in more colors. It's the best covering for a user camera.

Nice job on that recover, mortal.

A friend of mine sent me a C-4 Geiss Modified with a bum lens, and since mine had a bad shutter release, I took the lens off it and put in on the more recent one. Dug up my Cenei 29.5mm filter set, and Prinz hood, so I'm good to go.

Also have the repaired Super Seventy-Five, but then I forgot to re-roll some 120 today, and it's getting kind of late. So I'll probably just put the 35 Sandmar on one of the Bricks. B&W in the C-4, and color in the C-3 sounds like a good combo.

I found a few rolls of Kodak Gold 200 that expired in 2005...gonna pop a roll in my C3, shoot it at 100 and see what happens...I'm ready for it this year...
