July in the South of France is the month for the annual Rencontres d'Arles, the biggest gathering of fine art photographers in the world. In 2009 we met a couple of RFF members there. In 2010 we'd like to meet a lot more, so I thought I'd start this thread now in order to give everyone plenty of time to plan. I'll try to refresh this thread every few weeks so that Arles remains in people's minds.
You don't need fluent French, and it's not all that expensive (fine art photographers seldom have much money!). Meanwhile, take a look at my account of the 2009 Rencontres at http://www.rogerandfrances.com/subscription/arles 2009.html, which also has a link to an account of the 2008 Rencontres.
EDIT: Frances and I are now booked in (confirmed) for 2010 from July 5th. Suggestion: drinks and (if you feel like staying, instead of leaving after the drinks) dinner on the evening of the 6th, meeting on the terrace of the Hotel Voltaire, Place Voltaire (Google or use www.viamichelin.com) at 1830 (half past six). Dinner is about 10-20€/head (depending on how much you eat) plus wine (dependng on how much you drink). For Americans, 10€ = approximately $3 million --or, more realistically, at late 2009 exchange rates, $15. Wine is under 10€/litre (liter, large US quart, short Imperial quart). The opening week begins on Tuesday 6th and ends on about the following Sunday.
Cheers,
R.
