Don't think there is a cure. Every time I think I'm done with FSU cameras, I find another one tempting me.
I'm shooting a Zorki 1 now and have owned and used FEDs 2 through 5; Kiev 2, 3 , 4, 4a. and 60 ; Zorki 3m and 10. And a couple of half frame cameras. And a Zenit SLR.
And am now looking at Horizont, Start, Kiev 5, and FKD 13 x 18 cameras....
The FSU bug is like malaria, I think: it may be in remission for a long time but it will come back.

There is no cure!
Try spending 2 years east of the Urals and going to flea markets every weekend.
I am a bit embarrassed about how many cameras and lenses I acquired
Hee hee... Newest acquisitions last Saturday: 1 Iskra, 1 Kristall, both in good shape, $40 together.

You're following in my footsteps! But over 10 years later. The pickings are slimmer now, but prices are not that bad. I purchased part of a collection from a Russian emigre who needed to sell everything before he left Bishkek.
Many were given great BS-lies about what they could take or not take. Mainly petty officials exercising their authority!
Maybe it should be like my Russian UAZ jeep- you need a Russian driver/mechanic to go along with it. In this case a camera repair man. A friend told me years ago of how the owners of English autos could not get them repaired in Hawaii so they hire an English mechanic to move to Hawaii with all his tools to maintain their cars!

Well, it is a cheaper hobby than a vintage car or a yacht...that is what I always tell myself at least...

I used to shoot russian cameras since I was 8.
Now after 2 months of waiting for my M6 (got some light leaks) from repair it went back into repair again, since it was not cured from the first attempt. To bring my moods up I bought a nice Fed-2. It totaly differs from my Leica - in many aspects.. one is - it has absolutely no light leaks. And I am happy with it! Again!

HAH! That amuses me on so many levels. A lowly Fed beating out a Leica on light leaks? Propaganda victory if ever there was one!

No reason to stop, though... he might still get a Sokol, or a Leningrad, or a Drug, or a FED-11, ...
And then there are the SLRs... a Zenit-S, a Kristall, a Kiev-15... Or a Kiev-19 for those Nikon lenses, and a Zenit-AM for those Pentax lenses... Or a Horizon panoramic camera... Or a Narciss subminiature SLR... The possibilities are endless
