California (Bay Area, Northern) Aug. Bay Area meet-up?

Saturday the 11th, lunch time? Aim for 11:30, have lunch, drink beer, go & make shots after the stragglers have arrived? Sunday the 12th is also ok for me, having no commitments, but may not be for everyone.

Sorry, guys, I missed the later posts over the last couple of days. Was a busy weekend.

We can talk close to that date (Sat 8/11) about particulars (location, etc.), but yes, that plan sounds great. And I'm happy to be the coordinator for this (although it sounds like others are more familiar with the North Beach locale than am I; but I'm happy to be the point person with others guiding us on location, etc.)

Afraid that we might lose Allan on that date since I believe he said he is shooting a wedding that afternoon. Maybe he can join us in the early evening? As for Roland, I believe he is in Tanzania right now and if so, that would explain his silence.

Really looking forward to this!

I'm afraid the wedding on the 11th will likely knock me out of the whole deal. But I'll keep an eye on this thread.

It sounds like a good plan, and north beach seems to be a good location--not sure if I will be able to stick around the whole day, but hopefully part of it!

I leave for SFO on 2 Aug., so thought it was time to bump up this thread. I’m hoping to bring my laptop along to stay in touch. So far, for those who can still make it, we’ve agreed on Saturday, 11 August, ~11:30 in the North Beach area. We didn’t quite get to a specific location. Of course, I don’t have names of places, & I’d rather not rely on internet sites for tourists, so I’ll rely on you guys to come up with that detail. Any suggestions?

I'm the wrong one to pick a place since I don't get to the city that frequently. But I am still planning on joining in on the fun. Looking forward to seeing you, Guy, and to getting together with fellow Bay Area RFF members!

Should we consider perhaps a bit earlier or later as for time? If we plan to do any shooting the light in mid-august at that time of day (should it be clear) will be god-awful harsh. Then again it might be fogged in too.

Later in the afternoon will give us nicer light, as would a bit earlier in the day. Maybe people can meet up early, shoot for an hour or so then get lunch or something.....?

Sounds like Randy is coordinating (?) :D
BTW, conspicuously absent from this thread: Roland. Where are you Roland?

:)

Hey, just read this for the first time. Thanks for thinking about me.
I'm looking forward and will be there.

Randy, want to head up together ?

Roland.

I was making Toronto area assumptions about spending some time having lunch and focusing fluid, sharing stories, experiences, a photo or two, then, with that special hops glow, stepping out into the less harsh, approximately mid-afternoon sun. It does still shine for most of the summer, doesn’t it? I’m ok with any time to start. The only other thing I have to do that day is park my suitcase in the hotel.
Randy, I’ve developed that roll of Tri-X. A shot of you, and one of you & Mike. No glow of any kind; they’re out of focus. I’ll bring a copy of each and you can judge.

I think Mario's Bohemian Cigar Store Cafe on Columbus is a good place but may be a bit small and difficult for a big group. There's also a handful of cafe's on Columbus that we can go to. Are we looking for a lunch or coffee place?

How about the Ferry Buildling?

I think that sounds perfect. Grog, grub, gab, then some photos perhaps. Sounds great.

I wish I could be there but my time is spoken for. If anyone has the inclination to come up to Sonoma pm me for my mobile number and I will pour the wine. Roland - invite stands.

Guy, I was thinking the same thing (meet first to eat, drink, talk cameras and get to know each other a bit and then head out for some shooting afterwards).

Roland, heading up together sounds good. And since you're on my way, I could pick you up. Same goes for you, Ray, so if you're interested just let me know.

So, sounds like we're still planning on meeting somewhere at about 11:30. And Guy is staying in the North Beach area. So, who has a good recommendation for a meet & greet place in North Beach?

I'm still looking good for that weekend, so let's keep in touch Randy. I may take you up on that. Is that Mini-Cooper going to hold us all? :D Parking is probably going to be tough. I was thinking about BART-ing in or driving in and parking south of Market. I might visit SFMOMA and walk up to NB.

BTW, I ran into Ted yesterday at "our" Long's one-hour counter. I haven't seen him here lately, so I'll email him and have him tune in to this thread. Allan has been MIA, too.

:)

Yeah, the Mini may be a bit tight for all 3 of us. But then, it sure makes parking easier in the city. I can handle BART if you and Roland want to go that route.

As for Allan, he said earlier in this thread that he was tied up shooting a wedding that day. But maybe his plans have changed. Would be good to see him and Ted as well.

Let's talk closer to that date about logistics.

-Randy

Sadly, my wedding starts at about 3, and won't be over therefore until 8. Unless you're having one heckuva long lunch I won't be able to make it. Sorry.

How about you two guys take the mini and I take the bike (sorry, Ray,
Bart can not compete). Like you said lets email closer to the date.

Cheers,

Roland.

So what's everyone bringing? For fondling I mean. These meet-ups are a great time to see other people's gear (much of which you WANT!). I'll bring my newly acquired 35/1.2 Nokton if anyone wants to see/try it out. Also, my MP.

Oh, and wait until you see, touch, feel and smell, my Luigi half-case in "aged" brown leather for my MP. It's gorgeous.
