Would anyone in the Bay Area be interested in a meet-up on the 2nd weekend in Aug.? I’m coming down to attend a family wedding on Aug. 3, so that weekend is out. I’m staying at the Hotel San Remo for the 11th, 12th, & 13th, & leave on the 14th - early a.m. The location is good, 2237 Mason St., especially for me to catch a few S.F. shots just before leaving. The 9th or 10th (or sometime during the week of the 5th) might be possible, but that depends on the plans of long time friends who may or may not have to be away for August. Narrow window, but my plans are set up & I’d be interested in meeting whoever is available. Randy, it would be good to get together once again, in San Francisco - or somewhere with a Bart station - this time.

You can cover quite a bit of ground on BART. Lot's of places with BART stations! Right now that's looking like a good weekend for me. I'm willing to pencil that weekend in. Maybe Honus will be feeling better and up to a meet by then. I met up with both Photodog and Xtoid about a month ago. They're both interested even though Xtoid is probably gonna be in the Philipines. Lot's of active Bay Area RFFers around these days.

:)

Hey, I would be interested in meeting up! I should be around.

I was actually wondering if anybody in the Bay Area, wanted to meet up sometime next week or the week after?

I'd be up for it if I'm in town that weekend. Anyone up for shooting around the peninsula this afternoon?

Hey, Guy, that sounds great! I still owe you for being such a gracious host when I first visited Toronto. We will definitely have to set a time to get together when you're in town. As Ray said, there's lots of SF Bay Area RFFers around so putting together a group gathering should be easy to do. And we need to get out and do some shooting as well. Perhaps a day in San Francisco is the thing to do? Brunch somewhere, wander around shooting for a while, then dinner? I would definitely be up for that.

Hi Randy,
It would be fun to get together & meet some of the other Bay Area RFF members, though I knew that limiting it to one weekend might mean a low turnout. I figured that since BART covers so much territory, that option could ease the inconvenience a little. Having said that, the Hotel San Remo has quite a nice location - especially for those who visit S.F. There’s a diner style place on Columbus, not far from the hotel, that would be great for lunch. I’d love to see if I could get an interior shot or two there, & Columbus would be ok for some street shots as I remember. I’ll just need to get up the nerve to take them. I look forward to seeing you & meeting whoever else can show up; we can get specific about time & date later. I still haven't developed the roll of Tri-X with the shots from your last visit. How's that for slow? Maybe in the next few days. 3 cheers for chromogenic b/w film, even though I prefer the cost & flexibility of silver halide.

Sounds perfect, Guy. As you said, we can work out the details later. But let's all plan on a gathering that weekend. Really looking forward to it. As for the diner you mentioned, I'm not familiar with that particular one but below is a shot I took last year at the Fog City Diner which is not too far away from the North Beach area. And yes, I'm still looking forward to seeing your Tri-X shots so get to developing! ;)

That one also looks great - nice shot. I didn't get the name of the other one; I just remember finding it on Columbus, & I wasn't taking photgraphs. Now I'm wondering how early to arrive at the airport with clear plastic bags of film, 3200 TMax prominently displayed, of course.

Shouldn't be a problem, Guy. I had no trouble getting security to hand check my film at the Toronto airport.

It looks like that weekend would work for me as well. Would be great to get together with some new RFF'rs as well as my Bay Area RFF friends.

I have a wedding to shoot on the 11th, but I'm game for joining in. I can use the break from school..

I think I know this place. It's not really a diner like Fog City is a diner, but a long narrow restaurant with big open windows and street tables (right?). IIRC, it gets crowded. The good thing is there are LOTS of good eats on Columbus, and you're right Columbus would be good for a shoot, especially on the weekends. I've been trying to shoot there for a while now. I was passing through (read: stuck in traffic) there last Mardi Gras weekend (infuriatingly without a camera-rare for me). It was pretty wild.

Do you mean Clown Alley? Well it's actually not Clown Alley anymore as it was sold to someone else but it's still there and it's now called Pickles. There are a few old school places in NB. One of my Italian favorites was Gold Spike but alas that isn't there anymore either. So much character in that place. I'm sure we'll find a place.

I'd like to attend if I'm back by then. There's always Liguria's for the best focaccia around near Washington square and a walk through Chinatown.........

no definitely not Clown Alley, and it will always be Clown Alley to me too, regardless of what it's called now.

Sounds like Randy is coordinating (?) :D
BTW, conspicuously absent from this thread: Roland. Where are you Roland?

:)

Randy’s suggestion of brunch, a shoot, then dinner appeals to me. I’d like to meet at least a few Bay Area RFF people, & a meet that goes from brunch to dinner allows for those who have other commitments to drop in & out whenever they need to. Cell phones are obviously helpful; the Montreal meet was greatly enhanced by them. I’ll tell you a story over beer. Ray, you’re right that the place I remember on Columbus wasn’t quite a diner. It’s really a counter with windows & maybe a couple of tiny tables in front. No recollection of street tables or its name; I was there 3 years ago. Good food, it was always nearly full, not crowded, but I went after the lunch hour rush. Any place we can get decent beer is ok with me; just let me know the name & address. Randy, I can PM you my cell # whenever it’ll come in handy. Ray, I was also hoping Roland would be able to show up. He gave me very helpful info on the Nikkor 50 1.4.
How does Sat. brunch, & beyond for those who have the time, somewhere along Columbus or the vicinity sound to everyone else?
