I like some of the crazy government regulations. The trick is having the appropriate ones and avoiding the unnecessary and silly. We all benefit from the common sense, useful and pertinent regulations -- sometimes easy to forget that and start thinking crazy thoughts -- Like throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

Whether we know it or not, we're all glad for the regulated use and transport of Methyl bromide.

I would guess that is an oversight. Still lists the large size of ECO Pro wash aid as shippable, but the small one is not. And the FOMA version of Dektol is not shippable.

If XTOL no longer ships I can't see how they would ship Dektol.

Folgers freeze dried coffee (developer), white vinegar (stop bath), I don't know about fixers from the market, but go to the beach and get sea water for hypo. Or get rid of crazy regulations from the government.

I got an 11kg order of sodium thiosulfate (not NH3) from a big pool supplier. It is used to de-chlorinate a pool that has been over treated. Also used in minuscule amts. to put into fish tanks for the same purpose but that is so weak as to be useless for us.

Still, keep it in the back of the memory bank for future reference.

Although I occasionally mix up my own caffenol (and like it), I also love my HC-110 and rodinol. I also appreciate fixer! 🙂 If things are turning for the worst, I might have to pose as a laboratory and order some basic ingredients from Fischer. Some chemistry (especially dry) can keep for a long, long time.

Sodium sulfite and sodium thiosulfate are readily available from local chemical suppliers in bulk sacks (dairy farms and swimming pool maintenance use both). You avoid shipping expense buying this way.

Artcraft can supply metol and hydroquinone in any quantity you could conceivably use.

Borax, sodium hydroxide (Drano) and sodium carbonate (washing soda) are on supermarket shelves. Sodium bisulfate is a swimming pool supply used for pH control - discounters often have it, read the labels.

No need to go to Fisher.

Probably a matter of deals they have with their carrier - large mail order sellers obviously have massive discount deals, or they could hardly afford the "free shipping" policies all are beginning to offer in the wake of Amazon Prime. And that will not come for free - part of the terms will be risk exclusions, so that the carrier can save on his insurance cost.

I'm glad I live in NYC. It is kinda cool to be able to buy 5 liter bottles of Ilford fixer to bulk up.

48th Street has not one music store. Sam Ash, Rudy's, We Buy, Alex Ax, Gracin's and all the others are gone.

I go to Sam Ash on 34th Street and trying to get my brand of guitar strings (DR All-Blues in 11's and 12's) is impossible because they don't stock them. Doubtful B&H will carry them, and maybe the only place for strings for me is Rudy's that is now in SoHo.

Sorry for your loss. Kinda sucks badly.

Thread over on apug alerted me, I just ordered last night and threw in a pack of Microphen no problem. But today ALL Chemistry is 'Store Pickup Only'.

In the wake of the ValuJet Flight 592 crash on May 11, 1996, the federal government began cracking down on safety regulations for many different chemicals in airplane cargo holds. We don't ship ground so every order has to conform. We elected to observe the safety restrictions scrupulously and the result is a range of chemicals and similar items we cannot ship. Compressed air products like Beseler Duster fall under the same restrictions. We began implementing these restrictions when the government first implemented theirs, several years ago. I am no sure why this has suddenly become an issue.

More recently there have been similar issues with lithium batteries BTW.

Every order of mine has always shipped ground, I have one on the way right now coming ground. Also I don't believe many of the chemicals you ship are ORM-D.
