A lot of stuff that was listed as unshippable a few days ago is now available again. Makes me wonder if the lawyers identified a potential problem and they just shut down everything until they could differentiate between shippable and not.

Maybe they were just putting some things on hold until they negotiated a new rate deal with USPS, UPS, et al. Places like B&H clearly don't pay what we pay for shipping.

Or if pressure from unhappy customers persuaded them to take another look at their policy.........

No, they don't, I ship professionally and my rates are far lower than high street rates.

Ok, now this is just strange. B&H shows 500ml size Ilford MG developer as store pickup only but they will ship the 5L size of the same item.
That don't make no sense.
I think Henry P gave up posting because he can't make sense of it either.

I don't know....he gave a whole lot of reasons for it to be a complete bogus job in the end since they now ship most everything again.
Why say anything, if what you're saying is nonsense? Same thing for the site chat guy who fed me the same line.

Well, something clearly happened as most darkroom chemistry is shippable from B&H again...

I just took a quick look at the chemistry section and most of it's shippable via to Canada save for HC110 (we get raped on that up here at $80 CAD per bottle). I'm not losing any sleep as I have Argentix as a backup.

I wonder if I should change from liquid to powder developers for b&w film. Shipping is also much cheaper.

Here is the B & H page on film & paper developers:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/For-Black-White-Film-Paper/ci/576/N/4288586387
I notice quite a few liquids do ship and many prepaid on $49.00 orders.

Yes and I ordered XTOL from Freestyle back in November. It was sent ground from Los Angeles to Sarasota, FL and arrived in reasonable time. It was not expensive and the shipping method was legal.
I then brought the XTOL back to Europe in checked baggage - as I have done many times with powdered developers. My bag was opened and inspected and sent on through.
After reading through this thread, I just now I visited B&H's webpage to find that while D-76 is available for store pickup only, XTOL can be shipped. This is completely inconsistent and no explanation is offered. Mr. Posner's remarks in this thread have failed to explain B&H's policies and I don't particularly like his combative tone either. By all appearances, B&H seems to have decided that it is no longer worth its while to ship chemicals and then retracted on that policy at least partly. It seems that B&H is taking its customers for granted.

The ingredients are different. D-76 is a metol/hydroquinone formula, Xtol is a phenidone/isoascorbate formula. FWIW, they will no longer ship DD-X either. That's a phenidone/hydroquinone formula, which suggests that hyroquinone may now be restricted. I'm not sure about metol.

No problem if you can wait a day to use them after mixing... :bang:
