... and the most correct!

Two years ago I was a juror on a workplace discrimination suit. Five counts of discrimination and retaliation based on race and gender. We heard testimony for five (5) days and each day one of the counts would be retracted. The dismissed charges were one more rediculous than the other. In the end there was one count that the jury took to deliberation and that was determined to be unfounded. What we learned, though, was fascinating... the defendent had spent 5 years attempting to get his case to a jury. This was one of the frivoulous discrimination suits; I'm proud, nonetheless, to have served on a jury who gave it just as much consideration as if it were a legitimate discrimination suit.

Isn't a B&H director or part owner a member of RFF ... I seem to remember him posting in a thread a while ago?

I think we need to be careful not to indulge in 'trial by internet forum' here!

exactly. PC witch hunts are disgusting.

I remember over a decade ago when there were zero, nada-nadia, persons of color working the floor. Only over the past five years have I seen it change.

As we know, court cases take years to come to trial. I wonder if this judgement was due to a trial or was it settled out of court.

IMHO it is very difficult to prove discrimination, although things are improving. Discrimination sucks!!!

Calzone

how many "persons of color"posting here? anyone up to walk the talk?

I wonder if they have any Muslims, Hindus or Rastafarians working there.

what if they don't? are you going to boycott them for that? please do... then BH will improve their business and lower their prices to secure loyal customers. that's excellent for me and others who don't dance to the tune of PC BS.
so please go ahead and keep up w/ the PC witch hunt. love to watch liberals shoot their own foot.:bang:

One does not have to be a "person of colour" to be discriminated against.

Agreed.

I am a visible minority - or some would say visible majority - but anyway; the whole concept of having to be a certain race/creed/colour etc. to work in "such and such" is ludicrous.

i replied to a post which described BH as a place w/ no persons of color implying that discrimination was going on..
how many persons of color do we have here? should i automatically assume there is discrimination going on?
why do i feel there is instead some resentment going on towards a jewish orthodoxx business?

Your highness, the King of Bokeh.

The OP mentions that it was Latino employees filing suit. Aren't they probably "people of colour"?

Who is posting here is not really relevant (my opinion that you can either agree or disagree with). But to answer your question, I have a color, and a religion, and a race, and a creed, and a national origin. Count me as the second in in the audit of persons of color. :)

I'm not seing the resentment you are seeing, against orthodox jews or anyone else. In past discussions I have seen people comment on how "inconvenient" it is to not be able to buy stuff from orthodox-jewish shops on the sabbath/holiday since they are closed... but that has always seemed to be resentment that the complainer failed to plan ahead rather than resentment of orthodox beliefs. maybe I'm wrong, though... I strive to be open-minded and accepting of any correction of my misbeliefs.

I work for B&H, but I am not an owner nor the owner.

I think we need to be careful not to indulge in 'trial by internet forum' here!

Thank you. It's nice see a reasonable reply to a complex issue.

lol. Sarcasm right? Two years ago you'd be hard pressed to find a goyim anywhere in the place.

Respectfully, this is entirely incorrect. I've been at B&H 14-15 years now and I am the least religious human alive today.

They probably don't want any non kosher food brought into the lunch room either (if they have one).

We have several lunchrooms and anyone can bring in anything he or she cares to consume. I had a ham and cheese panini on Tuesday. Split pea soup with bacos on the side.

You are too funny, Henry. In addition to giving Helen her own forum I think RFF should consider giving you your own. :)

B&H is an equal opportunity employer and conforms to all federal, state, and local labor and hiring laws. Since we don't ask, offhand I ave no idea what the religions are (if any) of the people with whom I work unless an individual chooses to tell me by word or garb or deed. Moreover, I don't care, as long as he or she contributes to making B&H better today than yesterday and better tomorrow than today.

With all due respect Helen, your position (as the same could be said about Henry Posner's position at B&H) is to "spin" the bad experience of one (or a number) of individuals so that it appears that there is some sense of "caring" from the point of view of the business as a whole.

With all due respect, you misunderstand my job and my purpose in being here almost entirely. While I do seek to help customers with problems find resolution, I also bring 20+ years of full-time pro shooting experience here. That coupled with the access to equipment and manufacturers my employment affords allows me to function as quite a bit more than a spin-meister.
