I see used M8's in 8+ condition for $2,400 or so. I would assume there is a gaurentee with the camera as well. On Ebay, I see them above this price and much higher. Personally, I think they shopuld sell for $1,800 or so, but since there is no other choice except Leica right now (Micro 4/3 does not count for me. I can live with the M8's crop factor, but M 4/3 is not good for me).
I need a second backup body which is why I am pricing these.
Anybody else see better prices?

Here on the forum classified. There is or was an m8u mint with light use for $2400. Another in 8 condition fir $2200. Both in the last week and maybe still available.
The auctions on ebay for the first M8 model have been going off around $2200. I've been thinking of selling mine, so I've been looking around.

Almost everybody is cheaper than eBay. There are few private individuals selling on eBay anymore and the dealers are all "Buy it Now" at mostly ridiculous prices.
If I was buying any digital camera I'd like some minimum guarantee - thus either someone with a store front or someone on the forum with feedback.

Used from B&H?
Used from B&H?
B&H is a thoroughly reliable company & I buy most of my equipment from them.
But there's a 'However'': Because many of their customers are professional photographers, their gear may have received a lot of use. And 8+ is a pretty low rating from any dealer.
If you aren't in the NYC area & can't see/fondle the camera, you might do better to shop on this forum or on Craigslist.

I think bay would be ok for me as long as it is not "sold as is", ebay have good buyer protection policy, but you need to contact seller for details(known issues, repair history, etc) before bid.
And the 8% bing cash back is sweet

I bought - but returned - a chrome M8 on KEH.com on January. An advantage they have is that interstate operations are tax free. Haven't seen M8s there lately, only M8.2. $2400 seems to be a good price, depending on the condition. Best thing would be to stop by the superstore in NYC and give it a look.

You should also use eBay's option to see the completed listings and see if the Buy-it-now M8s actually sell for those prices. Any time I've compared Leica or any rangefinder asking prices versus successful sales I've found a very different story (at least here in Europe). If B&H or any reputable seller has a good price and good conditions, then don't let asking prices on Buy-it-now cloud your judgement.

Ebay is there to sell.
Dealers are there to buy.
At least to me.

Simple.
I use ebay when I want to sell. Because it sells at higher price most of the time.
I use dealers when I want to buy. Because dealers usually give me warranty. And often, "mint" from ebay is similar to "EX" or sometimes "BGN" from dealers...

The best camera is one that still works!
Personally, I think they shopuld sell for $1,800 or so
Why so .... the market sets the price and as long as M8's are fetching $2200.00 upwards that's what they're worth surely.
The camera that intrigues me is the Epson ... the glut of used M8's has had less effect on their prices than I expected, which says a lot for how highly the RD-1 is regarded despite it's outdated technology!

Look on Amazon.com (they will show any available used M8's under the M8 listing). Also, check with Tamarkin.com and other Leica dealers.

Dale Photo is a good Leica dealer with reasonable used prices...http://www.dalephotoanddigital.com/_e/dept/10-001-003/Used_M_Digital_Cameras.htm
The Leica User Forum usually has a variety of Ms posted in their buy and sell listings.

Buy from a dealer!
Buy from a dealer!
Given the choice between the roulette of eBay sellers and PayPal's appalling treatment of buyer/seller disputes, I'd go with either a trusted forum seller or better yet a dealer. I've only ever had issues with eBay sellers in the past (fortunately only a couple) and when it comes to spending thousands of dollars I know I feel safer dealing with known entities.
