B & W lenses for M2/M3

35 Summaron or 35/1.8 Canon. 50 Summar if you can find one in good condition (not easy). Your best bets in 50 may be a Summitar or an Elmar 50/3.5 or Canon 50/1.5. I gather that you're looking for a lower contrast lens and has a distinctive signature.

For the M2 in order of price:
Summicron 35/2 8 elements (1st version)
Summaron 35/2.8
Summaron 35/3,5
Elmar 3,5cm 3.5

For the M3 in order of price:
Summarit 50/1.5
Rigid or DR Summicron 50/2
Collapsible Summicron 50/2
Elmar 50/2.8 v1
Summitar 50/2
Elmar 5cm/3.5

My M3 kit consists of the DR 50/2 Summicron, the goggled 35/2 Summicron (8 elements, 1st version), and the 21/3.4 Super Angulon.

All of these will give the traditional signature in B&W. For color, you may like the later more contrasty lenses better.

I second the Canon 35/2 for a 35...

Or the 35/3.5 Summaron... I got mine in LTM... sharp, low contrast :)

The only photo I've taken with it and kept so far is a digital one though...

Thanks everybody - I am currently using a 50mm DR Summicron and an eight element 35mm Summicron (with goggles) - I don't think that I can do any better.
Regards,
David.
