** SORRY ** I don't have the pictures developed, yet! Well, at least not from my Bessa R. The digital pics were ready quite quickly, though. ;-)

As some of you may recall, I was soliciting opinions about using a 35 and/or 50 lens on my rangefinder for taking beach landscapes for an upcoming trip along the Oregon coast. The RF would be a backup for my Minolta A1 digital, since I wasn't confident that I could get good 11x8.5 prints from it.

I've only printed one 11x8.5 from the A1 and it has actually turned out quite well. I bought a pair of 512MB cards prior to the trip so I had 1.5GB of card storage. This gave me plenty of room to shoot in RAW, and that gave me pretty good image detail.

For the shots where I thought I would like a large print, I shot with the A1 and then the Bessa R loaded with Reala 100. Prior to the trip, I was concerned that the 35 and 50 lenses would be too limiting. But now I have to say that they worked quite well. They provided a nice range for the types of shots I did. I was particularly surprised that I found the 35 to be wide enough for this trip.

I'll post some pics as soon as I get 'em processed. I've never done side-by-side shots with film and digital so it'll be interesting to see if there are any big differences.

Heceta Head Lighthouse

Couldn't be there during the "magic light" time so made do with 10:00 am-ish.

The detail in this photo (scanned at around 2800 dpi on my rather old Minolta Dualscan II) is much sharper than the RAW file from my Minolta A1. I used a Bessa R with CV35/2.5 lens and Reala 100 film.

For the time being, film is still the best route for me when I want maximum detail. The RF kit is a small backup although the CV50/2.5 is surprisingly heavy. I was tempted to leave it at home and bring the Jupiter 8 instead.

I just wish it wasn't so time-consuming to scan film.

Lars,
I'm with nwcanonman. I want to see more pictures. That lighthouse shot is beautiful.

That is BEAUTIFUL ! Agree, we want more...

Great shots on DSLRx as well, but they come from a MF digital back? isn't it ? Really beautiful images.

Thats a nice shot. You should have contacted me while in Oregon.
I didn't even know you lived in Oregon (or maybe I forgot). In any case, we had just enough time to do what we wanted so I wouldn't have been able to do any visiting, anyway. I really wanted to visit the Air Museum near Tillamook, what a gigantic building! But, alas, it'll have to wait till next time. Next time, I'll bring my Jeep and play on the dunes, too. Might be able to get some nice dune scapes while I'm at it.

check out these oregon shots from a member on dslrexchange. Pretty impressive digitals.
Gorgeous photos! Thanks for that link.

And thx to everyone for the kind words. Unfortunately, I only shot 3 or 4 scenes with the RF (didn't even fill up a 36 exp roll). The shot of the New Clarissa (a shipwreck near Coos Bay) was better composed on my digicam. Don't know what the heck I was thinking when I shot it with my Bessa 'cuz the composition sucked when I looked at the prints.

I do have another lighthouse pic near sunset. Maybe I'll post that tonight.

Ok, here's another lighthouse. I really should've used an ND GRAD filter here but I didn't bother bringing one since I was using the rangefinder (and with the digital, I could just bracket and blend in post processing).
