Hi Michael,

If there is a light leak, temporarily swap the M3/2 back doors.

Regards,
Robert

Man, you guys and gals have some really nice gear.....I am jealous.........I own 3 Leicas...an m3 that is mint-, and m6ttl that is heavily used but not banged up and then I have this m2 that happens to have lots of nicks and dings in it........

This ding on the back door happened while I was at a concert, I went to photograph my favorite Thai singer (Da Endorphine) and for the first 3 songs all I did was shoot lots of photos and stayed away from the booze.....after those 3 songs.....I slung the camera around my shoulder and hit the booze and started to rock and roll....at some point, the camera must of bumped into something......oh well......I am going to put a new roll in it tomorrow and test it out....I plan on bringing it to Myanmar with me soon, I hope it's ok......

this ding was already there when I bought the camera

and so was this name and serial number engraved on to it......

I bought this camera (M2) and a 50mm rigid from a very cool member here (MikeL) for 750USD a couple of years ago in San Francisco......I always wanted an m2 and it is a perfect "user" camera for me........I prefer it over my m3 because of the 35mm frame lines......but if I did happen to do some damage to it (I'll know soon), then the m3 comes with me to Myanmar as a back up to my m6ttl........

I treat my cameras with great care and respect, and I never want to ding them up on purpose, but I guess that is just the way it goes when you use them and carry them every day with you.......

cheers, michael

So I tested the M2 out last week with the "ding" in the back door and did not notice any light leaks or anything strange in the photos........but then I closely examined it and the back film pressure plate has a small dimple in it....the dimple sits below where the film actually rests on the pressure plate, the dimple does not sit where the film rests against the pressure plate, it is below on the bottom of the film pressure plate....regardless.......

on Saturday, I switched back doors from my m3 to my m2 and went and shot a test roll and everything is fine.....the m3 door fits nice and tight and there is no play (wiggle) in it and no light leaks.......so I am happy I have my m2 in 100% working condition........

but to be honest, the m2 is only used as a "back-up", I use my m6ttl 90% of the time........but I just wanted to thank Robert once again for the suggestion of switching back doors.......it works awesome.....

So I arrived today and one of the first things that I noticed is that you can buy images of "The Lady" (Aung San Suu Kyi) on the street off of street sellers.......I have never seen her image displayed publicly before, most Burmese carry a portrait of her in their wallets but her image was never displayed out in the public......so that's pretty cool....

I met with my travel agent friend today about some "new" places that I can visit, some of them take 2/3 days on buses to get there, but I might go for it.......I arrived today, got some up to date information about what parts of the country are closed off and what is open......

It is going to be an exciting 3 weeks for me out here.....I brought a lot of film and I expect to have some fun.........and as of now, my eye is great and I feel fine.....thanks to everybody....

cheers, michael
