Some may hate you but I think you are wonderful! I shall take a print of this thread and the next time my wife moans and says "not more camera stuff" when I am poking around in flea markets and auctions, I will show it to her!
Congrats!

you are like my son!! if you fell into a dung heap you would come out smelling of roses!!!
Enjoy your good fortune!!
P.S. I cannot say too much, about 10 years ago I bid for and won an unused Leica CL outfit, camera, two lenses, full set of series 5.5 filters, cases, fitted bag, instructions and guarantee cards all for £150. Still have and use it. It was at a sale of stuff from a house clearance.
Someone also got a pristine Rover2000 car with less than 2000 miles on the clock for £100!!!!! at the same sale.

You should of politely let them know what it was actually worth and then paid them that sum, that is, if you want to call yourself a decent human being.

Well if the auctioneer doesn't know a Leica/Nikon/Pentax from Lemage that is his fault - and that is why we all peer under the tables
With all due respect, let's not go down the same path as the recent black M3 thread...we're talking about an auction where he was the highest bidder. There is no such obligation, any more than he'd have an obligation to inform the other bidders of his knowledge.

sorry, the winky smiley ment it was in jest. That's the problem with typing instead of talking, it's often easy to overlook it.
I thought the black M3 thread was a bit rediculous.
Congrats on the fantastic deal!
