Hey there,

so far the forum has been pretty helpful for me and I want to thank you all for your amazing support!

I've got a few questions in regards to film development:

1. I'm using the developer for 3mins 15sec and the Blix for 4 minutes, while agitating continuously with both chemicals. After the Blix I wash the film, first with tab water and then with destiled water before pouring in the stabilizer for one minute, the first 15sec I agitate the film.
Am I doing this correctly? (I use the cinestil kit with a temperature control system at around 38 degrees Celsius +/- 0.3 degrees celsius)

2. Is prewashing C41 necessary?

3. I'm scanning with a Prime Film XAs and some of my Negatives turned out quite purple - is that normal? Am I messing up the developing process or is it the scanner?
I scan at 5000 dpi, 48 bit color

Thank you in advance!

Regarding your point 3, are the negs turning out purple, or the scans of them?

I've found that if I scan commercially processed colour negs (Epson V500) I often get a strong blue cast, so I think you must mean the latter. Unfortunately it's so long since I did any that I cannot remember what I did to sort it, which doesn't help you.

1. Assuming you are using the correct temp and adequate agitation (as per the instructions), the recommended times should be sufficient. A problem with these is that the blix can easily under-process, leaving unremoved silver the emulsion. Adding a minute or two to the recommended blix time won't hurt.

2. Not required; frankly, not recommended, as doing this may slow infusion of the developer into the emulsion, critical where you have a very short development time.

3.Unsure - probably a scanner issue.
