Being right or being smart?

Hi all

I'm taking this off the original, wonderful, "give away thread" to keep it "clean" there.

Frankly, I was a surprised by the tone of the moderation there against Raid.
The point made by Joe may be completely right (frankly, I don't know my way into forum manners to judge). Why does the whole thing has to be public??

I felt really annoyed for Raid that had to go through that.
My feeling is that whatever has been done here was not purposely offensive to someone feelings. I know that some kind of genious on another forum has succeeded to connect the two remaining neurons in his failing brain to reach this brilliant conclusion:
RFFers are giving away stuff, they must be snobs!
(Yes I am now purposely offensive, and I hope HE reads that).
But IMHO, that proves a lot about his (lack of) intelligence and nothing about us.

Raid has been an active contributor, and may I say, a gentleman at it. Couldn't he have some credit and have the "you have been a bad boy, go to your room" thing done privately??
I think Raid reaction has a lot to do with the way things have been done and not the facts themselves.

Peace on all...

That's funny. I was just about to post a new thread "Raid, please stay!" before going to sleep for the night.

Ditto the OP!!

and my gratitude goes to Joe's moderation. I hope this won't become a thread for judgement, but rather a thread for reconciliation.

As I posted in the thread, this should have been handled in the back room, not in the bar.

Please! This is supposed to be a happy occasion. Let's not bicker and argue over who killed who.

In fact, I'm so happy that I'm going to delete my earlier post and get out of this thread altogether!

Reconcilliation is good. Who cares what anybody else thinks of us. I have been here for a couple of years & I have seen cameras giving away & monies collected to buy a camera kit for a RFFer in need. Frank S started a collection for a RFFer in a raveged area near Croatia I think it was. We all gave a few $$ & Stephen donated a Bessa @ a huge discount & took care of the shipping as well. Find that on other sites! RFF is the best.

Raid is a nice guy. He and I have exchanged many emails with one another over the past few years. I hope he stays too. I think that last night we were all a bit on the excited side and a lot of folks were way past their bedtime.

I can never understand people falling out in forums. It just don't make no sense :( The whole point of a forum is that it is a place where differing ideas, people, views, thoughts come together. Why people feel offended coz someone either has a differing view or won't accept their view is a mystery to me, isn't that the point?

I won't say Raids seemingly contradictory actions were wise. I'm not going to say BackAlly's approach was wise either. For a first, I haven't got the proper background info on both their intentions, for starters. Second, neither of them seem wise from were we all stand.

I'd like to conclude that whatever the positions were when all this started, it's a 1 to 1 score at the moment. It's on neutral ground, so to speak.

Funny, it also was on neutral ground before it started, so let's call it a day and let each have his own lesson learnt without the rest of us trying to spell it out.

Just my two cents in the whole, won't post a follow up on, I've had my say.

I think Raid will be back as he's a cornerstone of RFF, even though his 'lens tests' are awfully boring.

And back alley may consider chastising established members for minor lapses of judgment 1:1 rather than publicly.

and your constant photo's of blokes sitting around the same ol pub drinking beer & wine while watching football aka soccer aren't?;):D

you stepped into that one Jon. I had to say it...kidding:)

Raid's lens tests are far from boring! He's the best thing we've got these days! When Modern Photography went from "lines per millimeter" to hi-tech "modulation transfer function" about thirty years ago they lost me! They seem to have lost everybody!

Raid's tests are written in such a way that those of us without advanced degrees in statistics can easily understand them, and he shows us what the lenses can do with real photographs, not pictures of test charts.

Raid's lens test showed me how well the J-3 performs @ wide open apertures when well culminated therefore saving me several hundred $$ on lenses I didn't really need.

I really enjoyed Raid's various lens tests. Number one, I usually had a lens or two in the mix, but mostly because it is fun to compare the characteristics of various lenses.

I hope the Raid returns-he's a good guy, and has been a valuable contributor to RFF

People that get rude (and I have seen a few here lately) have issues that wont be resolved here. They damage the community.

Dude, I respectfully suggest you get a grip. :) You can't make a post stating "Sally Mann and Nan Goldin stink" (or words to that effect) and not expect to get called on it. Temper your own remarks and you'll be treated respectfully in turn.

rudeness on the internet... who ever heard of such a thing:D

It's just a camera forum, and I wouldn't get too worked up about it.

general consensus on some boards is that rff is now a 'leica' board and that we never discuss classic rf anymore, or at least not as much as days past. we are seen as affluent in even this economic turn down.
i have to laugh at that as these folks have clearly never seen MY paycheck.

as far as raid is concerned, i was annoyed that he was complaining that 'strangers' were coming here for free stuff and then i see that he was inviting them.
plain and simple, nothing else involved.

Thats funny, cause from what I can see Raid didnt go anywhere. It shows that he is still logged on and on-line, happily reading this thread as I'm writing this. So, dont miss him just yet. Plus if he does decide to go - well it was his own descision - noone kicked him out. I just dont get why some people create so much drama when someone anounces that they are leaving. Whats this? A group of 5 year old girls or serious and grown up people? As a side note - from what I read - it seems that Joe was right to question Raid's posts. Fact that Raid got caught up in his own conflicting posts - his own fault. If he now choses to leave - well, I dont see whats all the moaning about? After all - most of us are adults here, I thought. And finally, I promise you, Raid will stay - he seems to be way too involved in this RFF community to leave just like that....
