The drama comes from the fact that this happened in a kind of 180 degree twist. It happened on the crest of a wave of generosity sweeping through RFF, making us feel that it really is a community and something to be proud of. Then there was the hesitation that we were being watched and perhaps judged from outside, and that one of the core members might even unwittingly or worse yet intentionally be hob-nobbing with the enemy, sowing envy and jealousy. I've seen this happen more than once on the internet forums. Usually what happens afterward is that people start washing their hands, engage in recriminations or mea culpas, and eventually the general cynicism is only reinforced.
Raid's departure is a done thing. I sent him a PM expressing my grief. I think each of us needs to respond, and respond privately to Raid directly (or Joe or Pitxu or me or whomever).
BUT FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE STAYING: let's try to focus (we're photographers, right!). May we NOT engage in explanations and justifications and recriminations, etc. C'mon folks, the only reason we close down the aperture is in order to get a DOF that allows us to digest everything in sight...
I suggest, concretely:
1) amnesty. total. unconditional.
2) generosity. total. unconditional. sheesh. we've already done that. let's not get cynical. reopen THE thread. ADD a few rules. state clearly a closing date.
3) photograph, scan (upload) and share. total. unconditional.
