Being right or being smart?

Raid's lens test showed me how well the J-3 performs @ wide open apertures when well culminated therefore saving me several hundred $$ on lenses I didn't really need.

Ain't that the truth! I've had a J3 that I bought here a year or so ago now and only just got around to trying it with some Tri-x on my Kiev II. When I was scanning the negs on some fairly boring shots later I was gobsmacked at just how good a good J3 is at f1.5

so what are these other boards that are saying this, just curious so i can have a look is all lol

I thought it was perfectly reasonable for Back Alley to mention about Raid posting the give away on other forums, he has Moderater under his name so i would think thats part of the job...it seems obvious it was poor etiquitte, considering it was placed in the RFF members area. Raid seems a nice bloke, i like his family shots but showed a little poor judgement it appears..no big deal, just a mistake--carry on posting here Raid

it was a great thread though, heaps of nice things, a shame the last few people posting had to continue to carry on like a chook with its head cut off, and get the thread closed! even after they were asked to let it go!

general consensus on some boards is that rff is now a 'leica' board and that we never discuss classic rf anymore, or at least not as much as days past. we are seen as affluent in even this economic turn down.......

joe

I must admit I do not tour the "boards" you are refering to, Joe, nor even know who they may be. But my feeling has always been and continues to be that RFF is a great success. The statistics speak it.

With time I have learned that not everything shines, nor I myself am a best boy here, but there is no doubt that RFF is a tremendous success.

Slandering, I mean outside hostyle slandering, is only a comfirmation of RFF success and will deepen with RFF progress, not by migrating posts.

Another sign of its success is the high emotional involvement of many of the members, including me, which sometimes make us touchy and unsymphatetic for a while. Thus sometimes some of us misbehave, or seem to misbehave - yet the overall balance is what really counts. Raid is a fine and veteran member. He has carved his own place here, a place which gained reckognition and respect. At due time he will continue with us. Who among us doesn't need from time to time to get out of the cave and ventilate the bones ?

We are also very emotional and touchy in our posts. It cannot be otherwise as we are both a true international forum and a highly democratic one as far as freedom of speech is concerned. We are not an aristocratic Brittish gentlemen club, and to my personal opinion, besides the due campaign to civilize our talk, we should have a measure of tolerance for "rant". And we do have it. We can be better, should be better, but never forget we are ok.

So keeping in mind that Joe for sure knows a lot of info I do not, I still will keep an optimistic view for the future of RFF, grow under its shadow, and let the dogs bark at the sidelines while our parade moves forward.

Cheers,
Ruben

Who cares what any random poster says in other forums, anyway? We have enough people in our own forum that post nonsense. :)

It's really a shame that what seems to be a great forum/community is torn up over an issue like this.

What r u talking about!! This is normal conversation, expression of opinion round here. Ain't no body leaving & ain't no body mad. I have laughed all day around here.:D

Dear Devan,

We are not "torn up" at all. A member of our community feels hurt upon the moderator remarks about what he considers a non-consistent behaviour (my synthesis).

The issue is being discussed openly by those who consider it relevant, and take hard note this discussion is not censured. Our moderator Joe attitude, in leaving the issue open for criticism is not to be taken for granted. On the contrary, is very much a RFF jewel.

The possible departure of a veteran member is important to many of us. We care about each one, and believe it or not, earlier today I gave a long thought to your question about going professional, before deciding not to intervine. I thought about you as if you were in my shoes at the same time. Your question was not just technical for me.

This human sensibility is not my own league but another RFF asset you will feel more and more along time. This community sense also explains why sometimes when one of us gets a knock, he or she wrongly feels it as an unexpected knock out.

Don't get lured by "the gear small talk". All dwellers here know very well that photography starts with what you see and what you feel.

Cheers,
Ruben

Plus if he does decide to go - well it was his own descision - noone kicked him out. I just dont get why some people create so much drama when someone anounces that they are leaving. Whats this? A group of 5 year old girls or serious and grown up people? As a side note - from what I read - it seems that Joe was right to question Raid's posts. Fact that Raid got caught up in his own conflicting posts - his own fault. If he now choses to leave - well, I dont see whats all the moaning about?

...................bingo!

Thats funny, cause from what I can see Raid didnt go anywhere. It shows that he is still logged on and on-line, happily reading this thread as I'm writing this. So, dont miss him just yet. Plus if he does decide to go - well it was his own descision - noone kicked him out. I just dont get why some people create so much drama when someone anounces that they are leaving. Whats this? Fact that Raid got caught up in his own conflicting posts - his own fault. If he now choses to leave - well, I dont see whats all the moaning about? After all - most of us are adults here, I thought. And finally, I promise you, Raid will stay - he seems to be way too involved in this RFF community to leave just like that....

I think you are right. And that's exactly why the OP's thread was titled "being right or being smart?"

HA! Nor mine, Joe, nor mine!

I lot of us can sympathize with that. I have been years deciding I could afford to experiment with 35mm RF and get a Kiev and some lenses. I am not rich either. I make a certain amount of money, but I hae a certain aount of debts to go with it.

I do think the forum has migrated to an emphasis on Leicas over the years. We used to talk more about FSU cameras. But that doesn't bother me. Good for those that can afford it, and still choose to spend time here.

As Ruben and others have pointed out, we are a photographic community here. For all those that can afford to acquire expensive gear such as Leica film or digital cameras, everybody here seems quite interestied in producing photographs. That is more of what RFF is about. And for all the tempests in teapots we manage to create, this RFF is still the best thing around. We focus on photography, and still manage to discuss interesting, if sometimes controversial, topics.

Myself, I try very hard not to step on anybody's toes. But if I ever do, just tell me. I learned long ago how to polish shoes. I can fix it. :p

You can all keep your free ****!! Im done! YOUve ruined perfectly innocent and wonderful gesture by Richard and its gone to hell! It will be a huge mistake reopening that thread.
