Bessa L - Some Questions

Just got a like-new Bessa L from a fellow RFFer. I got it for my cv21/4 with its viewfinder so I can just leave the kit on the L, thus freeing up my Bessa R for use with other lenses.

Questions:

1. Can anyone explain the logic behind the shutter release lock? Not knowing it existed, I learned the hard way. Missed a good shot, actually two. For those who don't have an L, if you advance the film for the next shot and return the film advance lever ALL THE WAY in - which is what I've done with every type of camera I've ever owned - guess what? It locks the shutter release! So here comes the next shot, you press the shutter release button and NOTHING happens.

You have to pull the film advance lever out just a tad, and it unlocks the shutter release. And, if you're left-eyed, like I am, it means you've got the lever against your nose (remember, you're looking through a viewfinder mounted atop the camera, so your face is higher than if you were looking through a viewfinder in the camera body). So twice my nose pushed the lever back in and locked the shutter. Alright, maybe I've got a big nose.

I think I sense the furry logic behind this scheme: You can leave the shutter cocked and locked so it won't accidentally discharge.

Well, OK. But why not put it on the Bessa R, R2, R3, R4, etc? I think that's the question I need answered.

2. The very nice ISO setting dial underneath the film rewind crank has ISO settings from 25 to 1600 (hooray for old Kodachrome and new Fuji Neopan).

So how do I shoot ISO 3200?

Outside of that the camera's a blast.

The lock's use is like you suggested. Most people didn't find it useful (I did, though) and it was removed from the later Bessas.

Concerning your second question... over-expose by 1 stop when shooting at iso1600.

Thanks for the information, RML. Explains why it was removed.

As for how to do ISO 3200 - Duh, must have had a senior moment.

Ted-
If you notice, the thing that stops you from taking a picture on the Bessa L is part of the wind lever obscuring a slot in the shutter button assembly.
I've often wondered, how hard could it possibly be to remove that little tab?
