So, did anyone get one of these for Christmas? (not me) I've been intrigued by all the reviews; great viewfinder and all. How do you like it???
Inquiring minds want to know?

Got one just before Christmas. Got a 40mm 1.4 for it for Christmas.

Short review - Love it. Won't trade it. Its a staple in my camera bag and/or briefcase.

Long review coming after I get some more film through it.

Thanks Stephen, looking forward to seeing some shots too. Congrats!

They probably won't look any different from my shots with the R2 :) I have two rolls being developed now (C41), and I will be developing a coupe rolls of B&W myself in the next few days. I'll scan them and post em.

Hi there, the R3A is a great camera, there have been reviews in another thread on it, to sum it up, the shutter isn't very quiet and the framelines are hard to see with specs on. but it feels great!

My first one was broke in 2 weeks but the replacement is working fine. Shutter sound is still a loud clack (to my ears - the difference between it and the R2 shutter sound is miniscule in real shooting situations) but it's a good simple camera for the price. I've been putting it through a workout for a little over a month now and it works for street shooting in some situations - in others I'd rather use a Konica Hexar AF.

Interesting about the shutter sound. Though I agree that it isn't that much quieter than the R2, it is a lower pitched sound. I have noticed in normal situations that this sound blends into the background noise, so in effect, it is not as distinct. Maybe it is just me?

I still don't know what broke exactly. Something to do with the shutter/electronics. If you go into the CV Forum, you'll see the thread I posted about it. Anyway, I went back and exchanged it. No problems with the new one.

Rover, you're right - for some shooting situations, the shutter sound blends. But, then again, I don't really find it to be so significantly different than other cameras I could use in those situations. The difference in pitch is not significant enough to make such a difference to me - but hell - I live in Tokyo where it's either noise chaos or zen silence. In the latter type of moments, I'll pick up the Hexar. Don't get me wrong - I like the R3a. It's light, simple, and fast (AE).

Thanks for the answers. Now to put it on next years Santa list - LOL.
With my luck there will be an R4 by then ...........
