Gotto go with back alley here for a manual focus SLR: T90, but ugly (for most
), but a more advanced manual focus camera has never been made.
As for RFs: nobody mentioned the M5 yet

Hexar af for me. Its the vf with nothing in it that does it for me, it tells me all i need to think about is composition and moment, which is all i want to think about. Actually the whole layout and functionality of the camera tells me that.
From rfs, the minolta cle. But i like them all
Slr... not sure... i love leica and contax

Black Barnack with a minty Summitar. Pure and simple.
There are so many really outstanding 35mm cameras... The Pentax LX has to be near or at the top. And the M2 of course.

Have the Hexar AF. Not my pick. The 35mm, the slow AF and max 250 shutterspeed killed for me. I preffered my now crushed Hexar RF to my M6 .85 TTL - mostly due to viewfinder flare. The Hexar rf rangefinder had a tendenzy to misallign....that is not something I miss. Didn't care for the M3 I had... I guess I would like the zeiss ikon, but haven't tried it.

Konica Hexar AF. Special mention to Olympus OM3/4, Leica R6, Nikon F2 and Nikon FE/FM series in roughly that order ... Ooh, sorry - almost forgot the M3/MP !!

Hmm, it would have to be the old Nikon F. I have a Hexar, but I can actually shoot a manual focus SLR more quickly than the Hexar focuses. Also, the Hexar has problem focusing through windows and such. The old Nikons are easy to use, rock solid reliable, and require no batteries. They also can go decades without requiring any type of service or repair. Lastly, they can be used with dozens (hundreds?) of different lenses.
I like Leica M cameras, but they require regular servicing to keep them on top shape, and more than once I have managed to bump an M hard enough to knock the rangefinder out of adjustment.
If this thread were about the best film camera of any format, rather than being limited to 35mm, I would say that the Rolleiflex TLR is my choice.

The one you like best and actually shoot with. There are probably as many "best" cameras as photographers.

Slow AF on the hexar? Really?
For me personally I love my hexar rf still, and don't use anything else.

need interchangable lens
need interchangable lens
Hexar AF too limiting with a single lens.
I would have to go for my first love, the Olympus OM1.
More versatile than a rangefinder but still small and has a superb viewfinder.
I think I would also enjoy a CLE for ultimate small package versatility, and would also choose this over the Hexar.

Much as I love my M3, I couldn't say Leica make "The best 35mm camera", just too expensive, and inflexible for wides, telephoto, macro etc.
