I use TMax a bit. It's okay but seems a bit flat compared to Tri-X. I process both in Xtol stock. Oh yeah and I rate my Tri-X at 200. I shoot a lot more 100 iso film than 400 though. i love Acros, again in Xtol stock. I hate grain.
There is no right answer to this question. There is no perfect film/developer, just personal favorites. Just pick a combo and go to work with it for a year. If you don't like what you get by the end of the year, try something different. TriX, HP5+, TMY, arista EDU, Fomapan, they all work just fine. Pick the developer recommended by the manufacturer, can't hardly go wrong with that.
