Best camera accessory

A lens cap for preventing shutter curtain holes, scratches and dead bugs on your lenses.

Or a big bright viewfinder with brightlines for your 50mm lenses. This might only be necessary for some old rangefinders, but that are all the rangefinders I've got.

Ok you've convinced me ... a patient/attractive assistant/model that comes with her own soft releases & wrist straps will do just fine 🙂

5 Benjamins in a paperclip. It will get you out of most situations in life.

This was often given as the reason why a newspaperman wore an expensive Rolex - it could be traded for the right to walk away from a difficult situation in a scary land. Before the common counterfeits, it was a universally-recognized substitute for money.

I'd have to say, the one I seem to need most is... my cable release! I take it everywhere. Could be 'cause I shoot in darkness a lot - no need for a tripod usually (you can use anything soft enough. Try a pair of gloves!) but sometimes even handholding, I find cradling the camera in my left hand and using a cable release gives me a steadier shot.

Leatherman micra, used it the other day for adjusting a loose screw on my contax.
It´s small, useful and it works . . you can do almost all the same things you do with the regular leatherman. And it has a Scissors for cutting films.

I have to agree with the Micra. I have one too and it is so usefull. The small screwdriver is small enough to be used on most screws on an old camera, plus it is strong enough that it wont bend or chip. The tweezers are great too.

Best thing about mine is it cost me nothing. That's right, zilch, zip, nada. I actually found mine in some rubbish someone had thrown out. One of the guys I worked with at the time thought it was not worth anything and her threw it away as well. I had one look at it and saw it was a Leatherman and said I would keep it. I then informed him it was actually worth close to $100. He kicked himself after that mistake. I took it home and cleaned it up. This little thing came up like new (gotta love good quality stainless steel).

I really like my new "Gordon Coale" wrist strap. Came in the mail yesterday, and as luck (????) would have it, I got a chance to "test drive it" with my new Bessa R because we had a broken water main across the street.

We had no water till about 11.00pm, but heck, I had fun shooting, got to meet some new neighbours and my 2 year old grandson enjoyed wathching the "diggers" in action.

Regards to all and to Gord, the strap is great.

Leica Neoprene strap, perhaps the best there is out there. Comfortable, doesn't bounce on your shoulder like other neoprene straps. And a can of pepper spray, great for those occasions when being attacked by a pack of wild dogs.
