When I was living in Boston, there was a CVS directly across the street from my office. They had a Kodak certified 1-hour mini lab, and there was this extremely frazzled and haggard gent who was in charge. He really seemed like a cartoon character. Still, on the odd occasion that I shot some C-41, I started taking it to him instead of the expensive pro lab, which was a little further out of my way and took at least 24 hours. I would ask for no prints, no CD, and uncut negatives. It cost around $4, if I remember correctly, and I never once had a problem. I think he would get excited when I would come in, knowing I wanted to get some actual film developed, because he always seemed to be dealing with some headache of a customer who couldn't get the easy print machine to read their SD card or something. I wish I had easy access to something like that now, and I might shoot more color negative film.
