Today it's M5 with 35mm F2 Canon. Voted M5, too. Has the least M votes, so far, but it's right up there with M2, for me.

I voted for the M6 as the metering helps and its not so valuable as to stop me doing anything. However with a bit of money id buy a MP in a flash to replace my ageing m4 2 whose framelines are near perfect.

I can't tell if this is sarcastic or not... but the best camera is the one you use most, and the M8 is definitely that camera for me! 😀

...yes... sarcasm... hard to convey in cyberspace.
As much as I enjoy using (& finally lovin') my M8, I think the M6 is the best M camera. It's a good combination of usefulness (metered, manual body) and price (can be had for $1000). But yeah, I agree that the best is the one that's with you whether M or not...

in real use terms, any M that is reliable and does what is required without pause is good enough. My M2 and MPs feel the same and there is not a lot between them apart from the brighter VF of the MP (the M2 needs a full CLA).

My MPs are all fractionally different, but if I am actually shooting rather than trying to sense irrelevant minute differences, I cannot tell. Black paint has a lot more grip than chrome and the M2 vulcanite has far better grippiness than the sharkskin on the MP or the MP-3 leatherette pseudo plasticrap. I think I will get some decent leather for all of them.

All of them are light-tight boxes, and they all accept amazing lenses; if you ask me, they're all winners. I think the Canadian-made M4-2 and M4-P cameras are the best value.

Part of it is just the fact that i have an M4-2, but I have to agree. It is still brass bodied, so when the black chrome gets too ugly, I can just have it painted, and I have no problem with the built-to-tolerance steel internals instead of the more expensive brass internals. It may not feel quite as buttery as an m3, but the mechanism is still fantastically smooth. I got one with a reasonably high serial number (mine was made between july and october? 1978), and I got it at a fantastic price from a reputable dealer. When I was shopping around, I was looking for an m6 or a m6ttl, but I am very glad that i decided on the m4-2. I basically feel like I got a huge discount just because it was made in canada. If you don't need a self timer, and you don't like chrome, i think it is hard to find better value than an m4-2.

I used to think it was the M4, but since I got to handle an MP-3 I've changed my mind. The MP-3 has the same frameline mask as an M4, motorlug for Leicavit etc and a meter to boot. That's hard to beat. The only problem is the price· They cost a small fortune and are out of production.
