Although I own and shoot an M3 in BP, I would just as well have settled for an M3 in BC if that had been any easier.
My intention always was to have a camera that would not stand out too much from my predominant wardrobe color
D) and I liked the M3 most for its viewfinder.
Currently I'm getting my M2 done to either charcoal gray or black paint and I've given the artist (that's what I consider him, yup) a free hand since both will serve the purpose of more stealthily carrying and shooting
The camera that had a paint job most resembling a Leica M in black paint was my Chinon Memotron CE-II. Same gloss, same durability, I'd say it was identical. Nikkormat FTn also is real nice paint in black.

To Light & Love ...
I happen to have a Black chrome M4 and an M4-2.....
bias perhaps...
needless to Say I LOVE Black Chrome
No Ugliness in its patina... and Strangers on the Street seem to love them for their 'Looks'

I've always liked the worn black chrome as well as the black paint. I'm not really into chrome cameras however I've just bought a chrome Leicaflex SL to partner the black chrome SL2. i'll probably experiment on it and turn it black paint!

So what's this I hear about black chrome rippling as ugly?

Jeez, if you are using it instead smootching it, it shouldn't matter much.
Not entirely. My first new Leica was a black chrome M4-P and within a year it looked so awful that a Leica dealer friend advised me to return it under guarantee.
Almost 30 years later t still looks awful. Sure, it doesn't affect the performance, but my next new Leica was a black paint MP and my M9 is black paint too.
Cheers,
R.
I was joking Roger.

Sorry. Humour is sometimes hard to detect on the internet, and I apologize for misunderstanding. It's just that it's too easy, sometimes, to forget that there are intelligent people out there, whose opinions are worthy of respect, and to react as one would to most people on the internet.
Cheers,
R.
