black X100 paint?

The black coating is not exactly the strongest material. My black X100 already has one significant scuff and two scratches. The metal underneath is a dull grey.

Man, dull gray? How do they expect collectors to go crazy over the X100 in the future if it doesn't brass! WTF Fuji? ;):D

Powder coating comes in a zillion colors, plus flat, semi-gloss, glossy and is the toughest paint there is. However, it's thick so don't put it on any mating surfaces or where tolerances are critical. If you do, you literally have to grind it off.

I thought about pulling the top off a chrome body and having it black powder coated.

Powder coating is a very strong surface material. I could likely leave it more flat black - no polishing. I wouldn't coat the shutter speed knob etc. The cost of the black body is a bit crazy. You can get a hood on the bay for $12 and a black one if you like - comes with the adapter ring. The leather case would just get resold. Powder Coat.. comes in black and white, no other colors as I recall.

I checked and lots of colors now. Maybe a purple x100 would be cool? Just kidding.
