Blackrapid strap?

I have one - in my opinion it is the best "Y" type strap on the market. The only problem is that the entire weight of the leica is hanging off of the bottom plate (which I don't entirely trust due to the design). That being said, I would rather have the camera hanging from the bottom plate than by a single riveted strap lug. When I use my BlackRapid strap I actually string a "jumper cable" made of parachute chord from the BlackRapid tripod mount attachment to the closest strap lug - that way, if the bottom plate somehow manages to pop off, the strap lug will catch the camera before it becomes one with the pavement (and as a bonus I don't have to worry about dropping the bottom plate when I change film).
Overall quality of the product is great and it is very fast to use (due to the fact that the strap anchors into the tripod mount, leicas hang in a near perfect position when using this strap).

My wife has one to carry her heavy D2X Nikon and I have one for my F4S and leicas.
On the Film leicas I made a special holder on the baseplate, made of a piece of nylon strap the same width as the baseplate. The Strap is secured to the baseplate with a stainless Steel screw cut to fit and washer.
I also got an M8 but for this one I made about the same principle as above + some sort of triangulation with an extra hook on the RH Lug. That balances the forces and keeps the camera body vertically hung. I'll try to post pics of all this soon.
The Rapid strap is OK but I find the hook a little big and rough. I believe it Could have been made with a finer style.

Yes it's a brilliant strap - the best there is. Only thing is I probably wouldn't use it on a rangefinder - it's a bit too bulky. On an SLR it's just brilliant.

Hadn't heard of it before it was mentioned here, checked out the website and ordered two. What a great solution to carrying a big DSLR and honkin' big lens!

I modify the original Leica strap into something like that, attached to the lug though, and it's fine, haven't drop yet

I made my own Y-straps out of some "1800lb Mule-Tape" I found in my father's garage and $3 worth of parts from the hardware store. Mule tape is a nylon strap material used to pull cable through pipes. My dad is retired from the phone company and somehow a huge reel of this stuff found its way to his garage...LOL

Very interesting. I really prefer to carry my cameras like that anyway, but sometimes the strap is too small, or it is a pain to get it into shooting position. I may have to get one of these...

They are charging $45-$50 a strap - maybe you should start mass producing yours with all that mule tape and make a few extra bucks!

Mine's not very elegant, so who knows if someone would pay...LOL But that unjustifiable price is why i made my own. People seem to think you can just charge a fortune for anything that's for photography and I'd like to see more of us saying HELL NO and making our own things to bring some sanity back to this profession (or hobby for those who aren't professionals). I'd have paid $10 for a strap but not $35 or whatever. And that's not just because I'm poor....I'm also tightfisted and wouldn't pay it if I made $300,000 a year.

If anybody is interested on making one of these on a budget you can just order the little blackrapid fastener that screws into the tripod mount (~$12) and then just use your own nylon strap and use a mini-carabiner as a "slider".

I've been curious about the y-strap/r-strap/sling style straps for the past few days.
I've found something that I think might be a good alternative to the R-strap. It looks to me like a more elegant solution for anybody who isn't carrying around a pro slr with a huge zoom on it.
He doesn't seem to be in it to make money, but he's offering them for 17 dollars shipped. If you want a strap that attaches to the tripod mount, I don't think you could go too far wrong. I think I prefer a lug-mounted strap myself, but I could see this being useful with a larger lens.

I use an el cheapo version myself. 1/2" nylon strap with slip buckle from the discount store ($2), a stamped metal HD picture hanger from the hardware store (2 for $3... had to drill out the opening), and a stainless 1/4" cap screw and washer ($2 - plain steel would have been cheaper) and a key ring from my junk pile (Sorry - saved treasures.) Will try to post pix later.
