Bored....

I'm bored!

RFF is not working properly lately. OK, it's much better now that we've moved server but the gallery is not yet up.

The weather is getting better but still not good enough to go out and ride to look for some photo opportunities.

I'm definitely getting bored with my photography. It's always the same ol' crap.

Work is interfering. We just had a major reorganisation and the new bosses are full of energy and ideas. That's contagious but I'm hesitant to follow. Seen it before, and seen it fail every time.

So, do I have Spring time blues or should I get myself involved in some "project"? I've been thinking of finishing at least 1 photo book before the summer but with the latest b.s. from Lulu I'm not so inclined anymore to use their services. Yet, I haven't been able to find any similar service here in Holland or Europe.

What to do? What to do?

Here's an idea. A group of we Europeans pick a city, say Paris, for example. We book a weekend there - Friday thro' Monday - with the express purpose of putting together a set of images that show Paris as we see it and then we get them made into a book. An adventue, a project and a product. Who's up for it?

RJ, good idea. 🙂 This summer we're going to Mongolia again. Until that time I need something else.

I really want to do the photo books. That would give me a sense of accomplishment. I ran into trouble with Lulu when I tried to upload the pdf I had made. It complained that it was 9"x7" even though that was what I wanted. I have no idea what went wrong and Lulu's help is simply crap. I guess I'm just too stupid to understand their process. 😛

I'm up for it, Gid, but it'll cost money (which is scarse right now) and time (which is even scarser). 🙂

How about a day trip to Paris - we can get pretty good deals on Eurostar from London. That would make it even more interesting - A Day in Paris seems a good title for a book. If enough UK guys are interested then we can probably get a discount. Don't know about the cost of travel from Amsterdam though. We could even do Brussells - again by Eurostar. Any takers? Should I start another thread?

Nice idea. If time fits I could reach Paris and Brussel within 6 hours by train (do not really like flying around).

Cheers

Easy an European / Mongolia / USA / Worldwide RFF tour by bike.

With the amount of RF and bike lovers here, I find it strange that the idea hasn't emerged before 🙂

That is, of course, asuming you and several other people can get the time and material resources to do it, of course !

Great idea. Weekend, day, whatever; I'm up for it.

What about working with your existing images to set up an exhibition ? Or doing a 100 prints project, or something like that...

ha ha! Funny, like something out of my organizational change textbooks. Gotta be careful of you "change roadblocks". Sick business jargon bull. My god, what have I done. . . .Brooke's would have been heaven.

FOr me, photography gets stagnant when I make it a reactive thing - like I take my camera when I go places. So, tomorrow, I'm going to just take a bus to a random place in Seattle. Get off the bus. Walk around for 5 hours. With the camera. Go nowhere in particular, seek nothing. Return home with some rolls of randomness.

Throw a wrench in the works.

I just did that, 10th - 14th in Madrid 🙂

Need some warmth and sun.

Self portrait.

Serious. Nothing more challenging than that.

No quick snap in the mirror. A real one. A splendid one.

Plan, do, check, act 😀 you know the drill. Until it's perfect.

And it doesn't even have to be a pic of the outside. Impressionistic is fair game too.

Along the lines of Shutterflower ...

Pick a bus line that goes to the neighborhood you are least likely to visit normally, take your camera, and walk around for the entire day. Get lost in your own city 🙂

Just don't forget your Kevlar ;-)

DO NOT BUY ANOTHER CAMERA !!! 😉

My advice is do something new, it should be funny and relaxing.
Book a course at the local adult education center, on studio nude photography for example, with professional models tho. That will brighten your dark thoughts up 😀
Not only because of the models but also because of the bunch of horny wannabee-Newtons which you'll meet there. Priceless show !! 😀

I second (third) the take a bus idea, with one plug-in

Take a look every morning to your city's agenda (schedule), most of them have that info now on their websites. Take note of interesting public events taking place, then select the ones they look more interesting or just the ones in a zone you'd like to visit anyway, just in case the event is not that worth, or just pick a random one.

Then, you have ONE reason to be there, that is, recording that event. And even if in the end you don't do it, then you still have the option to walk around for 5 hours. 🙂
