boring serial number question

probably a question that has been asked many times before!

I purchased a 'new' runout M8 from an offical dealer in Melbourne on the weekend. However, it's serial number is unusual: 3200069, and the US registration site says this number has already been used. Hence I suspect it is a repack? Or would this serial number range be the 2nd batch after the initial recall? Anyone have any idea? It seems to be fine, as had FW version 1.10 before upgrading to the latest.

Same thing happened to me. Called Leica USA and girl named Kim asked me to fax the registration card to be taken care of. Still not fixed, so I assume it is a computer thing. Only purchase was the dealer in Memphis,TN who sold to me, a highly reputable firm, in business for more than 100 years. Would send the card, and give Leica a call locally. That is what I plan to do, but let your dealer know. If he is as reputable as mine, he'll call them too.

My box and my camera had different registration numbers. Two numbers were transposed. I think it was just an error on Leica's part.

Hi, I probably got mine from the same place as you did.

My M8 S/No is .... 31999xx

Leica website said..."serial number already used or invalid" when I applied for the two filters.

Customer support at Adeal Melbourne contacted Leica in Solms and sorted the problem out very smartly.

Leica had not logged the M8 serial number onto the website.
I'm now waiting for delivery of filters.

The camera appeared brand spanking new to me.

Unfortunately, the sensor has a vertical blue "pixel line of death" in it so the M8 has to go back to Solms. 🙁

I had the same problem, rang the Solms number and it was added on to the system within minutes.

Ach! German precision is not what it used to be. Of course there are those who claim that it never was.

A bit of overkill. An e-mail to Solms would have sufficed.

check your zeros in your serial number when you enter to register - your number is very similar to mine

After speaking to Leica USA, the people there e-mailed Solms and it was fixed. Seems, as Leica USA put it, the cameras were never entered into the computer system after they were manufactured in Germany. Once in, the filter ordering was no big deal, like registration. Call your local, have them e-mail Germany.
