I've seen so mant posts like this before, so figured why not me as well. Item number 7600349954 off the bay. Seems like a good deal to me, shutter times seem all good compared to CLA'd Retina IIIs. Though I dont know why people say whisper quiet shutter?? Maybe quiet for the type of shutter it is? I know my IIIs is quiet. Or can an M2 shutter be quieter then the Retina? Anyone with experience that can answer that question for me? Now all i need is a bunch of lenses. Does anyone know if the offer of free shipping from cameraquest is good for Canadian buyers as well? I've sort of set my mind on a 35 1.7 from there.

Where were all these sub $500 Leicas when I bought my first M? Ha, congratulations Ravid and welcome to the forums.

Wow, that is a great deal on that M2. No idea why they called it "not good looking". . . looks better than some of the M2s I've seen described as MINT.

$475 is a beautiful price.

Welcome to the RFF. Maybe your stay be long and fruitful.

Welcome! That's a good deal on a very good camera. Now, I don't remember if that Retina has a leaf shutter, but if it does it will be far quieter than any focal plane shutter can be. OTOH, I do believe the whole shutter sound thing is overblown. I've done a boatload of shooting in churches, for example, and have never had anyone notice my Kievs, Canons, or anything else. Don't sweat the sound and have fun shooting! 😀

It was kind of an impulse buy, I wasn't going to get one unless i got a lens at the same time, but it was there, i looked at it and thought it was just too good to let go. The only thing is now i have no lenses for it, for the time being, so all i can do is sit and practice loading it. I sent Stephen ( spelled right? ) that email someone recommended, and also about the 40 1.4, i shoot 99% b&w, is the single coated version so much better as compared to the multi? What i'm looking for is better contrast in my images at wider aperatures, and on the longer end ( 85,90,135 ) a closer focus. My current 85 and 135 Schneider's for my retina have a close focus of 6 and 14 feet respectively, not to mention the 200 ( 28 feet!!! ).

Congrats on the M2. It's a beautiful tool to shoot with.

Regarding the sound level, it's quieter than my CLE, which is quieter than my Bessa, which again is quieter than the Zorki 1 I got (thanks Donald!). It is however, louder than the Minilux or my Minox 35.

For a lens, may I recommend a Jupiter 8. It's extremely good value for money. You will need to buy an adapter for it though. The adapter would probably cost more than the lens.

why do so many of the user m2's have a dent near the counter or on the other side on the top plate? Mine has it, too.. and nearly all the ones I've read about on fleabay have that..
