Made the plunge, bought myself a mint condition black M8 from Red Dot Cameras which arrived yesterday, and I also have a 50mm Summarit-M arriving tomorrow.

The M8 is my first rangefinder camera. I also own a Nikon D7000 and kit lens.

I am looking forward to shooting with this kit.
I am probably going to buy in the near future a 35mm Summarit-M, however I would like to purchase first a lens that offers a 35mm equivalent on the M8; recommendations and advice is appreciated.

Big fan of the Zeiss 25mm Biogon and have been using one with my M8 for about six months now. Gives a little wider angle than a 28 and is the equivalent of like 33mm on the M8.

Congrats on your first rangefinder.

Best,
-Tim

Congrats on the purchase and I hope you will enjoy the experience.. The summarit is a treat lens but there are other "vintage" options that are just as good..

Hi, congrats....the more i know the m9 the more i cherish the m8...

i used extensively the zeiss biogon 28mm...great performer.
Also used the summarit 35mm f2.5....gives you 46mm fov...

Both great and very tiny...considering the thicker body of the m8 in comparison with the film M´s

Thanks for the welcome comments. :)

I will probably be going with the Leica 28mm f/2.8 ASPH. I have had a look online and most owners seem very happy with the lens.

The black M8 is such a beautiful camera. I can't wait to head out onto the streets with it to get some shots.

Second that...the Zeiss 25 is a wonderful lens!

Best regards,

I use the Voigtlander 28/1.9 Ultron ASPH LTM lens which works to be a 35mm equivalent on the M8.

There is a Zeiss 28/2.8 listed on the classified here at RFF and there is a Voigtlander 28/1.9 Ultron listed on the GetDPI for sale/trade section.

When I had a M8.2 I did use a Zeiss 25/2.8 Biogen which was wonderful lens for a 32mm equivalent and receives excellent reviews, a Leica 35 cron for a 46mm equivalent and a Voigtlander Nokton 40/1.4 for a 50mm equivalent.

Looks like you made a decision and going with the Leica 28 Elmarit and should be very happy.

Congratulations on your new Rangefinder!

That was the first lens I bought with my M8 - I truly love it - even with my ever growing lens collection - that 28mm Zeiss is still my favourite - not just the fov, but its ease of handling and its rich colours and contrast.

Good luck and congrats with the M8. I've had my mine for almost a year and I'm pleased with it. I'm using the 35 summicron V4 and the VC 25 f4.
The 25mm color skopar is very sharp but it maybe too slow for you. The Leica 28 f2.8 and the Zeiss 25 f2.8 get excellent reviews, so you have a few options.
Try renting a few before you make your choice. Nice work on your flickr stream.

Congrats on your purchase. It is a great camera.
May I suggest getting a pre-asph 35 summicron instead of the Summarit?... they are very nice...

Summicron-C 40mm, or Color-Skopar classic 35mm.
