That's why this is what I do. Ditto with my watches. If they stop I'm the only one to blame for having forgotten to wind them. 😀That's why use cameras without batteries 😀

As an outsider, all I can add is that this is a very funny thread.
Godfrey, most of the cars manufacturers now offer this very convenient feature actually... 😉It's like leaving the interior light of your car turned on when you leave it parked and then not looking at it for a week or two ... The battery will be dead when you return. Should all car makers be required to include auto-off circuitry that the users cannot defeat in every vehicle they sell?

Another reason why the M5 is the best camera Leica has ever made. Meter turns on when the shutter is cocked, turns off after a shot has been made.
Well sidestepping the actual subject of the thread, I can only assume the M6 does something vaguely similar (such as sleeping the meter after a certain period) because as I said, the batteries (which have already lasted several years) appear to have survived with the camera 'on' for the last few months.
Now we can step back and let the digital crowd fight it out for the rest of the thread. 😎
A bit of melodrama never hurts. Rossini, Donizetti and Bellini would agree with Puccini. 😉These little automated conveniences are nice touches. But if a device doesn't have them, it makes no sense to go all melodramatic about how horrible the thing is because you didn't care to learn about that fact before you bought it.

My M3 and M5 don't have an auto-shutoff function. Never been a problem. Can't see why you'd even need it for an MD since it doesn't have a meter or viewfinder.
It has a meter and a viewfinder.
Ah the notorious Leica nomenclature -- MD vs M-D 🙂
This is why it's hard for me to throw down 5-7 grand on digital Leica's
Perhaps it's just a teeny, tiny percentage of getting a lemon but ...

Yay! Mission accomplished! Isn't this fun, y'all? Takes me back to the good ole M8 days! The Leica basher vs. the fanboy game is such good sport.
On a serious note, of course, this can be fixed with a firmware update and the option of auto-shut off (not) easily accomplished with the command button and dial.
If Leica was to confirm that such an update was forthcoming and provide a firm release date, I might reconsider dumping it in favor of the 262 I already own. Any mention of this on the L-forum?
If only Leica was able to make a digital camera which wakes up in a fraction of a second with a little press on the shutter release, like normal people, that thread wouldn't exist.
My Nikon D700 was instantaneous too. Not too sure about the digital Leicas.how long does it take these Leica digitals to wake up? My Pana GX7 takes like a second and my Canon 6D is instantaneous, i assumed it would be instantaneous given the cost etc. 😕
