I have the Bronica SQ-ai system and by using the motor drive or the winder grip combined with the AE finder you have aperture priority auto exposure and a very easy to handle package. The Bronica is one of the lightest 6x6 SLR cameras. I also have a D700 and use an adapter for the Bronica lenses. The quality of the pictures is astounding with the d700. It is my digital back for the Bronica (which has no digital back). I recommend you try it. Price is very affordable now. Bob.

I recently got a Bronica sq-b with the 40mm. I wanted the square, I wanted wide, I wanted quality, and I wanted (relatively) inexpensive.

Well, there are Hasselblad V adapters that in turn allow you to use V digital backs. Never tried it, but they exist. There is even one listed on eBay Italy currently.
one thing: The SQ-Ai is heavy compared to a 35mm SLR, especially with a prism attached.

Will's Bronica S is the Bronica-purist's approach to 6x6. It's harder to find them in a condition where you don't have to send one part or another to Frank Marshman. Some day I'm going to get my S-body overhauled.
What Robert said was true, it took me a long time of waiting until I got the above camera from one of fellow RFFer in a working condition, it ended up needing an adjustment anyway because the mirror had slide-down a bit. But after that, it's a solid camera, so solid its shutter/mirror slap, that it will wake up your subject should they start to get sleepy from waiting for you to prepare the shot
Watch the Bronica S, S2 models. There was one gear in the gear train that is soft. That weakness was remedied in the S2a model.
Correct. But after multiple rolls, the winding system on mine trucks on. And having tried both S2 and S, I still prefer the S, there is a certain smoothness in winding that is not there in the S2 -- probably because it has that magical "soft" gear

I hear you and relate to what you are saying. After much deliberation on having on of my S2's converted to an "a", I kind of concluded that perhaps the S got a bit of a bad rap due to rough usage. After all, these Bronica's saw duty as Press cameras and portrait/wedding cameras. The lenses, particularly the 75mm Nikon were impressive.
