Apologies for not tending to the site for a bit. I’m on the road and will be for another week plus. One nice thing - got a chance to drop by The Bronx Documentary Center which has classes, top rated speakers and panels, movies and exhibits whose openings are attended by the neighborhood and some of the best photo people in the Big Apple. It is absolutely one of my favorite galleries of all times, but it is far more than that. It is a community center for both the neighborhood and photography.

If you visit right now you will see an exhibit of pictures of Martin Luther King by Ben Fernadez, his friend and an exceptional photographer. You will also see two small portraits of Chris Hondros and Tim Hetherington with candles burning by them. One of the two folks who started and maintain the gallery is Mike Kamber. You are probably familiar with his pictures of the Iraq War for the New York Times, one of a good many wars and foreign countries that he has covered. Chris and Tim, accomplished photojournalists, good people and Mike’s friends, were killed covering the war in Libya.

I could write a lot more about the Bronx Documentary Center. It is an exceptional place. There are many stories to be told. But maybe the best is to say, “Check this.”

The Benedict J. Fernandez exhibition is superb. Every print is vintage, printed by the photographer. Some are "work" prints, included for their historical and aesthetic value. The exhibition quality prints are the finest I have ever seen. I attended the opening and was impressed by the compassionate, welcoming atmosphere of the people there. If you are in NYC, do not miss this exhibition.

Great link Bill many thanks.
It seems to me that the spirit of photojournalism lives on in these places in a more profound way in the USA than elsewhere. In the UK it is now quite difficult to find and view modern picture stories that are not related to celebrity and or of local - that means London - appeal.

I wonder, to what extent New York remains the beating heart of photojournalism?
