Apologies for not tending to the site for a bit. I’m on the road and will be for another week plus. One nice thing - got a chance to drop by The Bronx Documentary Center which has classes, top rated speakers and panels, movies and exhibits whose openings are attended by the neighborhood and some of the best photo people in the Big Apple. It is absolutely one of my favorite galleries of all times, but it is far more than that. It is a community center for both the neighborhood and photography.
If you visit right now you will see an exhibit of pictures of Martin Luther King by Ben Fernadez, his friend and an exceptional photographer. You will also see two small portraits of Chris Hondros and Tim Hetherington with candles burning by them. One of the two folks who started and maintain the gallery is Mike Kamber. You are probably familiar with his pictures of the Iraq War for the New York Times, one of a good many wars and foreign countries that he has covered. Chris and Tim, accomplished photojournalists, good people and Mike’s friends, were killed covering the war in Libya.
I could write a lot more about the Bronx Documentary Center. It is an exceptional place. There are many stories to be told. But maybe the best is to say, “Check this.”
