Buying a 28mm lens when you already own a 35mm lens

I arrived at having 28mm and 35mm lenses from the opposite direction. A ZM 28/2.8 was my first M lens, then came a 50, 90, 21 and most recently a 35/1.7. The 28 and 35mm lenses are close and I seldom carry both, but each is very useful combined with one or more of the others. Each is a great lens used as a single lens/body combo too. There is room for both.

To my eye, a 28 gives a sense of air, space, and openness more so than a 35. The latter is more of a walkaround lens that can handle most situations. So for me, there is room for both. But when I need to travel very light, one option is to take a 24 and 35. This can be an ideal pair, since a 24 covers exactly twice the area of the 35 (which in turn covers twice the area of a 50). An ideal four lens outfit can be 24-35-50-75 (if you want to carry that much). Each lens covers about twice the area of the next longer one.

I wanted to let everyone know that I ended up buying the CV 28mm 1.9 Ultron at my local photo store for $300.

I wzs told that the seller, who originally had the lens for sale for $379, would go as low as $350. Since it was in KEH bargain condition, I offered to buy it for $300. The seller accepted my offer!

Not only that but the shop threw in a role of film I was going to buy AND, in addition, the salesperson threw in a lens hood, the Leica 12585, that he didn't need anymore. Needless to say, the salesperson, who by now knows me well, and I get along very well 🙂

I finally realized, after reading everyone's comments, that only I could make the decision on whether I liked having a 28mm lens so I decided to give it a try as the price was right.
