hmmm, where can I buy a new one in the US? I called Photo Village today ready to buy my camera tomorrow, but was disappointed to hear that they only had a slightly used one.

I feel that it would be better to buy a new one so that I have the full warrenty with out issues.

I'm trying to support the stores that advertise on RFF.

thanks,
James

James,
I bought mine from Robert White, and had it shipped to me in South Carolina. They checked the camera out before they shipped it, and everything was cool.

They did tell me that there has been a "problem" with Epson US not honoring the warranty that comes with the camera. However, the warranty itself does not have any geographical restrictions listed.

Shipping and the fees imposed by mastercard stung a little bit, check that - they stung alot, but I'm glad I bought the camera from them.

I hope this help.

Take care,
Michael

I handled that exact camera a couple days ago. Seems in working order but its a bit more than slightly used in my opinion. They use it as a rental.... I would have purchased it right then and there until they admitted that it was out till noon that day. I would have still considered it for 1500 or so.. but not for 2000+

Michael,
Yes thanks this helps a lot. Just called Robert White, to check in with them. It looks like they will be selling another R-D1s. Just for future ref. other people reading this post Robert White ships UPS express for £57.00.

usayit - thanks for your input on the camera at PV.

The Epson US warranty thing has been discussed here in the past, Robert White are giving out that information because they've had first hand experience of it. I seem to recall Epson US wouldn't even bow to pressure from Epson UK to fix cameras, meaning that if something does go wrong with a UK-sourced R-D1 its going to have to come back over the Pond to be fixed.
Of course if its something as simple as an RF alignment issue its probably going to be better to get a reputable rangefinder technician (this forum mentions a couple) to fix it in country for you...

Speaking of service, my experience here in North Carolina with Robert White in Poole, Dorset, has been nothing but the very best! A few years back (2000-2001) when CV glass was hard to find, I bought a couple of lenses from them and the experience was very, very good. Forget that there's an ocean between us and them...they were as good as the neighborhood camera shop!

I don't see the problem US folk have with buying from Europe.
Here in Europe we order from the US all the time.

But aren't all the crooks in Europe?

Those UK power leads do frighten me.
And James, since you buying your RD1 from RW you'll need a new power cord for the charger. I'm using one from Radio Shack, part # 61-2876.

There has been posting on the forum about batteries. The general thought seems to be, with several exeptions, is that third party can cause problems. I took the safe route and ordered a spare from Epson USA's web site.

I hope you enjoy your camera. I'm selling the rest of my photo gear because I love mine so much - the RD1 is the (digital) camera I always wanted.
