Hi Folks,
I will travel in Nevada and California early December. I will land in Reno and drive up North, then drive to Barstow, then Las Vegas.
I will most probably take my M8.2 and a couple of film M bodies plus a range of lenses (tbd).
Is there anything specific you would advise to see on the trip ?
Thanks

Hi Joan,
Lake Tahoe (Emerald Bay), Mono Lake, Bodie, Yosemite (passes are likely closed in Dec), Death Valley. In bold my favorites.
There is a strong chance of lots of rain and snow in Dec. So plan on having chains.
Enjoy !
Roland.

It's an El Nino year so there will be lots of rain and snow. Prepare for bad weather and take the widest lens you own.

If you have time, while in Reno the National Automobile Museum is worth a visit. In Las Vegas, the Clark County Musem and the Atomic Testing Musem.

Thanks.
I still hesitate with the gear I'm going to take...I have a large choice however I'm tempted to take only one body/one lens. Hard to resist !
Film, digital ?

Route 66 runs through Barstow. Great old Harvey House there.

In LA, you can get a tour of the Walt Disney Music Hall for free. Great Frank Gehry symphony hall. I'll be going myself Christmas week.

Last year my wife and I did a five week 8200 mile trip around the U.S. I took a bag of stuff and the most used combination was a M2 with a 21 Voigtlander. The M6 TTL with the 35 Summicron ASPH was a close second and the little DLux 4 was certainly handy. The 50 Summicron and 90 Tele-Elmarit had a nice ride but never came out of the bag. Keep it simple, the M8.2 and maybe a film body, 21 and a 50 would give you good range with the crop factor on the M8 and full view on film. Enjoy the trip!

If near Barstow, I highly recommend Mojave National Preserve.
If you'd like dunes, the Kelso dunes there are excellent.

Thanks to all for your good recommendations. It's going to be cold I think.
I think 2 M film bodies (one w. TriX, the other w.Kodak Elite color slide film) plus the M8.2 and the SA21, Lux35 and Elmar50 will do.

Well, you're certainly taking the scenic route. I'm sure you have a reason for wanting to drive from Reno to Barstow then to Vegas, but if you don't have to go to Barstow, you'd save yourself a couple of hours (about 140 miles) by taking the 80 east from Reno then going south on the 95 directly into Vegas. Of course you'd miss a couple of my recommended places to visit.
Having said that, because you're driving from Reno to Barstow and then to Vegas, I assume you plan to take the 395 down to Barstow then the 15 east to Vegas.
Given that, I'd recommend Yosemite, Mammoth Lakes (especially if you want to do a little skiing or snowboarding or take pictures of them) and Sequoia National Park.
When you get to Vegas, be sure to check out Red Rock Canyon just 20 miles west of the Vegas strip.

I'm primarily going for work. I am amazed by the number of famous shooting spots in this area !
Actually I will have 1 day of travel from Reno to Barstow in the middle of my mission.
At the end I will rent a car in Vegas and take 2 days of leave. Driving from vegas, I will look for interesting places.
Thanks to all of you for your valuable inputs.
