I just returned from motorcycling through California last week; ironically I was in every area that is burning now (Topanga Canyon, Ventura/Camarillo area, etc.). Nothing was burning on my way through, but I never checked my rear view mirrors -- I hope my exhaust has a spark arrestor 😀. The trip also included a few trips through Death Valley...very nice this time of year (and not burning, as far as I know). I'm really beginning to embrace this "less is more" idea; I traveled with a Contax IIa with 50/1.5 Sonnar and a Tenax II with 27mm Orthometar -- a pretty light load and I believe I could have actually traveled with only one camera. In that case it probably would have been the Contax. If anything turned out I'll post a pic or two...

No, it wasn't your exhaust. Some hiker got lost and called for help on his cellphone. In order to alert the authorities to his location, HE STARTED A FIRE IN A DROUGHT AREA!!! Needless to say, it got away from him and.....

This has all be discussed on the CVUG list as Stephen Gandy's house is near the afflicted area, but luckily out of harms way.

Captain,
Thank you for the rest of the story. This is an unbelievable episode of stupidity -- I had no idea. I was kidding about my exhaust -- I got home late last night and starting catching up on the news and I was amazed that all of these areas I had just been through were burning...it made me think of Mr. Magoo on a motorcycle 🙂. Remember kids: flashlights and signal mirrors in your survival kits.

Amazing.

EXACTLY that happened here in Lanjarón, Granada, some days ago as well, and just in the middle of a national park :bang:
