Ok, it's really sick to take this many photos OF a camera (Leica III (F)) before I have even completed the first roll in it...but...it is just such a great looking camera.

Trying to complete the kit in a contemporary way (all lenses/accessories to be made within 5 years of the year of the camera body) in the same way as I did with my M3 and that in itself is a very fun - and pretty harmless hobby :)

(I still can't get over how small it is..)

You are right, Rich, it is sick, but welcome to the club. Many of us here at RFF have a weakness for the engineering marvel and esthetic beauty of the camera itself. I certainly understand, even though I am embarrassed a bit by the number of pictures OF cameras that I have in my gallery. I even have an album dedicated to my gear. It's sick for sure.

But it is a pretty harmless hobby, especially compared to smoking crack or chasing women.

By the way, that is a beauty! :)
 
Rich, you're such a proud papa! I read the write-up on your blog, btw—good stuff. I like the 90 Elmar shot.

I think in some way we're nothing but grown kids, trying to complete our baseball/soccer player cards album :D ;)

But here something extraordinary happens, when we can use a piece of art to make art.

The screw and M Leicas are indeed master pieces of industrial design in the 20th century, and I admit they are just and simply beautiful, but don't forget the Canon P ;)

I know it's a reflex action after hanging out on the pnet Leica forum to don your asbestos suit and make all kinds of apologetic remarks for appreciating a Leica for its esthetics, but really, 99.99% of the rest of the world thinks it's completely ok. And the ones over there who belch up the most gas against admiring Leicas' looks and feel, don't believe a word they say either, trust me, they just do it for the sport of belittling someone else and try to spoil their enjoyment of their hobby. Those are beautyful examples you've shown, my M3 looks like it was run over by a train in comparison to yours.

Beautiful cameras and shots, Rich. Thanks for sharing them and post some shots taken with the IIIf when you get them developed.

We should all be as sick. Really, all hobbies/avocations have their quirks, etc. Does a hunter only have one rifle--I doubt it. Does a fisherman have only one rod and reel? Does not a golfer lust after a driver that'll give him (he thinks) 5 extra yards? We're always looking for an edge---real or imagined.
 
Thanks alot Rich. I'm [sitting on the mailbox biting my nails] waiting on both a Leica III and Elmar 90 from RFFers. Then you have to go and post these great shots and confess an illness. I fear I have leaped into dark waters. :eek: But man, that is a sweet looking camera. "Ya done good!" Great pics and thanks for posting.
 
And I am waiting on a Leica IIIa, a 1930's 50mm Elmar, and soon a Canon bottom-loader too!
 
There is no shame in loving ones cameras :) If it is a lovely camera, ask not why, but why not? BTW, that's a lovely camera :)

I used to do that with my Nikon stuff http://www.pbase.com/regit/equip , but have yet to do much with my Leica stuff ... now, maybe I will :) Thanks for sharing these.
 
I can understand. I've taken way too many pictures of my gear since I got my Canons. There is something about the fine ones that just draws the eye.

of course... ask any fly fisherman and he'll tell you he only needs one rod and reel.. one more than he currently owns, that is
 
I've done a lot of shooting with my IIIf-maybe as much as I've ever shot with anything. The more I use it, the more sense it makes. And darn, don't they look great!
