Hi guys,
Can anyone recommend a good camera store in Kuala Lumpur? I will be looking to buy some film - Velvia and Portra most likely. What kind of prices can I expect to pay?

Also, any recommendations for a good lab?

Thanks,
Ben

Try asking at http://www.photomalaysia.com if the above labs are still operating and for recommendations - I've used E-Six for 120/220 neg processing and scanning and can recommend them. Don't know the others.

The one I found is inside Petronas towers shopping center, basement floor. They offer processing and films and some vintage cameras (I saw nice canon 7p and leica III in their window).

Both these labs still operate; I use & recommend Applied Imaging, but they no longer do E6 or open on Saturdays & their film fridge looks somewhat bare. Still they work to high standards & will readily discuss your requirements.

As for film, you could also try Singapore- if you pass through there- try Ruby Photo in Peninsula Plaza on North Bridge Road.

Thanks guys,
any ideas what prices are like? I guess they can't be much worse than here (Aus, $24 for a roll of Velvia).

I spent a week in KL in July this year. Great place for street photography. I took all my film with me & had it processed when I got home so I never had to search out the pro labs. There are plenty of mini labs around but the range of film they stock is limited.
One thing I never figured out in KL is how to tell what part of the city a business is in by the address. They don't seem to use suburb or district names like in some countries. e.g. with the labs listed above, can a person get an idea of where they are in the city by postcode? Or is a case of requiring local knowledge?

Hi benno,
Quick answer off the top of my head, at Applied Imaging, about RM 18 for a 36 roll of colour neg (Fuji NPH, NPZ, Portra). I can get more accurate prices & stock levels! & Velvia prices tomorrow.

Today the AUD is selling at less than RM2-50 from the retail currency traders. Hopefully it improves by the time you get to Malaysia

hi hi, i'll be in KL in next 2 months and really interested in viewing your street picts from KL.

David, thanks mate I'll hit up Applied Imaging of E6 for some film when I get there.

Hi benno, no worries; was there yesterday; Velvia's RM 30 per roll of 36 & Provia is RM27 - but there's not much of either left in the fridge. The Oz doillar seems to be trading around RM 2-50 still
David

Edit: Elitechrome also RM27; all 36 exp rolls of course

Hey, long time no post, no lurk.

Hope no one minds my resurrecting this thread, but I'll be in KL soon and am in the market for an all-black Fuji X100s. Can anyone recommend a reputable shop?
