I did a really bad job on mine.
Shows bare metal at the strap lug areas.
Need to get another set! Still cheaper than paying 500usd to Leica!

I found install to be very easy. My griptac came off in two pieces, and left very little residue which I removed with Goo Off.
I applied Isopropyl alcohol liberally and it moved easily into place. I pushed down all the edges with a small flathead screwdriver and then left it in light sunlight.
I was worried about getting it over the frame line selector, but it was actually a broken circle, meaning that it needed only go around it, and not completely over it (sorry if that doesn't make sense). Basically, it was simple. It took me about 20 minutes and I am very pleased with the results. It looks even better in person (more matte than shiny like the picture looks).
At $30 and a week's wait, I wish I would have found out about Aki's shop sooner. Now I only wish I wasn't so pleased with my M6's covering!
I have also found it is a bit more grippy than the griptac (ironic). It also makes the camera feel of better build overall.

4034 looks good^^
I just got the 4008 on my m8 yesterday. I am very happy with it. Came within 5 days or so to CA.

Aki Asahi is great, always on the ball with email, quick and secure shipment. I now have 4008 on all my Ms, including an M6. Also always ships a spare backdoor cover, and custom cuts if needed. Like on this M3:

Looks awesome on your black M8! Indeed, it adds a higher-quality feel to the camera. Whatever drove Leica to use that sandpaper covering in the first place ...

I just noticed your finger strap. Where did you get that?!
This is my M8 covered with Aki Asahi #4034. It seems pretty close to Leica's vulcanite, and it should fit the M9 as well. I think it looks fabulous, and it feels MUCH better than the M8's original "sandpaper" covering.

It's the Leicagoodies Sling, and I cannot praise it highly enough! I prefer it big time over both hand- and shoulder straps.

Did this recently.. I find the 4008 texture closer to the original vulcanite.

I tried 4008 and 4034 before. The texture of 4008 is closer to Leica original vulcanite. But 4034 feel much better in hand with better grip feel.

WOW. Wish this had been posted earlier. My MP has had camera leather's black beauty, aki asahi's 4008 and now 4034 on it. Of all I am happiest with the 4034. It suits more modern leicas, however I would say the 4008 would suit older leicas like m2's m3's and m4's.

How is the grip compared to griptac? I have it on two cameras and love it. I have an M with... something rather slick feeling on it. I leaning towards replacing it. 4034 is tempting but I haven't had a chance to handle it myself.

If you have ever handled a modern digital M with vulcanite and not the sharkskin, then you will notice little difference to 4034.
