Cameraleather.com experience

I ordered a leather kit for the Minolta srT-202 and Leica M3 from cameraleather.com 4 1/2 years ago and am still waiting. He quit answering my email the first few months after ordering.

In my opinion he ranks at the bottom since he takes peoples money and does not deliver..

You should not run a business if you can't or won't deliver....

Here's the new record! Feel your pain, man.

I ordered a covering for my Nikon F on a Wednesday night. The envelope was postmarked the following day, and arrived on that Saturday. My order wasn't any fancy leather, just "stock" replacement color and pattern, so maybe he had that particular kit already on hand and ready for immediate shipping? I am really satisfied with the quality and fit of the kit (and all the extra pieces I received with it too). While I did not experience the delay that others have, I can certainly understand the frustration in having to wait for so long for a kit to arrive.

I placed an order for my Argus C3 and just waited for it to arrive...I wasn't in any big hurry and waiting didn't matter...I feel that the order arrived in a timely fashion and it looks great...I would definitely order from them again...but don't own a body that needs a face lift..

He makes a nice product, that is true. But how many orders go unfilled? 1%? 5%? 10%? Interesting business model. I bet some other businesses would like to pocket a percentage of their orders. Slow is one thing but never? How is never for you? It's a shame, someone should buy him out and do it right.

So far my orders from him have come through pretty quickly. There was one time though it was almost 2 months. Fingers crossed

Has anyone used their re-covering service or had them paint the back door? I'm thinking of sending my M2 to them, but some of the above posts concern me.

Um, redoing a covering is dead simple.

If it is just re-covering, I would do it for you if you mail it to Ottawa. No charge, just mail it up to me. And maybe recommend Aki-Asahi covering, if Morgan isn't shipping.

As for re-painting the back door, it is tricky. Generally painting is tricky. Sometime easier to find a nicer door - via ebay or DAG.

With Morgan's track record, I'd be hesitant to mail it to them. And don't get me wrong, I've bought a lot of beautiful leather from him.

Thanks for the offer Vick. I'm really not too concerned about re-covering it myself, I just figured if the camera is out of commission while the back door is repainted it would be just as easy to have him re-cover the body at the same time.

I think I'll take your advice and just keep my eye's open for a nicer door, and do the re-covering myself.

Has anyone had a recent email from Morgan? I will have a Tech V that I want to re-cover.

In lieu of ordering from Morgan, I bought sheets from Fargo Microtools instead.

I really want Morgan to succeed, because he offers such a unique service, but he sure isn't doing himself any favours.

Mind you, I'd love to find out where he sources his materials :)

It's too bad that Morgan's customer service is so hit and miss. His product is very good, but I surev didn't like having to wait for the leatherette to arrive so I could include it with my Autocord when I sent it off to Karl Bryan for service.

I've been waiting for 2 years to get my order. I paid for leather, nothing exotic, for an M2 and a two older Nikons. No response to emails. Apparently wasted money.

About ten days ago, I ordered a Cameraleather skin for my 'new' Konica TC (thanks, Mike!). The skin arrived two days ago! Eight days turn-around time. :)

Ah you got the griptac.

I have ordered from Morgan three times over a couple of years and he promptly shipped.

I will have to say that there was a problem with another person (in a different forum) that did not get their order and Morgain did not really respond to him for many months. Oddly, I had order and received from Cameraleather during that time so I sent Morgan an email ... he promptly found the other persons order and shipped it.

Received my order in 3 weeks, with no problems.

Last weekend I ordered a set of Griptac for a Rolleiflex. Along with the photos that Morgan requests for such camera so he can be certain to use the right templates, I added a sentence asking for prompt service or an update about any delays.

I got an email from Morgan on Monday- "OK. Thanks for the order."

The griptac was shipped on Wednesday, arrived on Friday.

I think his turnaround time depends a lot on what you order. It took him several weeks to a month to fill an order for a granite kidskin some years back and less than a week for a griptac for my M3 and an A12 back recently.
