Cameras in movies...

In the tv series Hercule Poirot his sidekick Captain Hastings uses a Leica III or IIIa.

It was a IIIa. David Suchet personally uses both Nikon and Leica. He used an M3, which belonged to his grandfather who was a Fleet Street press photographer in a documentary series about tracing your ancestors. He has featured in the "Nikon Owner" magazine. (Issue 6) and Issue 11 using a Nikon D100.

Air America

Air America

Found a film from 1990, 'Air America' with Mel Gibson and Robert Downey Jr. About the pilots flying for the CIA in Laos and Vietnam during the Vietnam war.

Film character Jack Neely (played by Art LaFleur) shoots a black Nikon F.

The new film "Carol" with Cate Blanchett, has the other lead female Therese Belivet (played by Rooney Mara) as a photographer. From the official movie trailer clip #2 she seems to be using an Argus C3 (which would be appropriate for the time - the movie is set in 1950s NY; the film is based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 novel The Price of Salt, written in 1952).

One glaring error - the film shows a ground glass viewing screen snapping into focus as she focuses the RF camera.

Edit: anyone know what film she's using? It shows her loading the camera with a green 35mm film cassette..

It is a Canon F-1 that spends half of the movie rattling around on the dashboard of Helen Hunt's truck in Twister, not a Nikon as (much) earlier reported.

The James Woods film "Salvador" may be the best camera-spotting movie of all time, with Nikons and Leicas galore.

In "From Russia With Love" 007 uses a Rolleiflex TLR; but it has a micro spy tape recorder built in the back of it.

Apocalypse Now - Nikon F....a bunch of them.

Turns out we have been lied to - Bessa T camera is MUCH older than we all think ;) If you watch a movie "Stander", which takes place in the 70's, lead character - Andre Stander is seen using a Bessa T with Voigtlander collapsable lens and external VF:

"Bang Bang Club" from 2011 - tons of Nikons- About coverage of Apartheid in South Africa in early 1990s. Great film.

Lots of film cameras in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" - the version with Johnny Depp.

At least one Speed Graphic, lots of SLRs.

that's it, i'm sending a letter to the camera division of the bureau of historical accuracy.

X-Men: Days of Future Past: One of a pack of journalists was using a Kiev (4a?) RF.

The Amazing Spider-Man: Spidey was using a Yashica Electro 35 G*.

"Blow up" Nikon F plain prism with 85mm, Hasselblads...

"First we take manhattan" Pentax S2, Rolleiflex

"Das Boot" Leica IIIa (?)

I remember Ringo Starr walking around with a Pentax SLR in one of the Beatles movies. Don't now which, its long ago.

Just to add a new name to all the Nikon F and Leicas here....
