Cameras that you don't use but can't bring yourself to sell

I have at least 50 cameras, probably more (it's been years since I counted), ranging from 8x11 mm to 8x20 inch, plus movie cameras. Only ones I sold were my Canon T90 and Canon D20.

I really can't bring myself to sell most cameras, even if I very seldom use them. I have a glass plate camera I've never used, but I won't sell it. Probably none of my LF or MF cameras will ever be on the block, nor my Minox cameras, nor movie cameras, nor Leica cameras, nor Canon FD-lens mount cameras.

I might sell my Fuji X-Pro1 and my Bessa R. I don't love them.

It's difficult for me to even think about selling gear, especially bodies, as I tend to buy them under significant circumstances and/or sentimentalize them in one way or another. And although I have a lot of cameras compared with the average person, @Vince Lupo's photo demonstrates that I don't have that many cameras at all.

There's no point in selling my gear, either. The old digitals won't be worth anything, and the film cameras are either hand-me-downs from Dad, presents from family, or fun finds that I don't care to lose.

For example, Dad gave me his film cameras, notably including his Minolta SR-T Super, which was given to him by his father, and his Pentax ME, which took many photos of us as children in the late 70s. I learned the very basics of photography with those cameras, they are in pristine condition and still working, so why would I sell them?

I purchased a Fuji F30 new when it was first released, and took a bunch of great photos of family and friends with it. Same with the Fuji X10. Even the relatively unused cameras get some use from time to time.

I've sold lenses when they have functional replacements or get no use at all. I'm about to trade in a limited edition nickel Voigtlander Heliar 50mm collapsible and Color-Heliar 75mm LTM to help fund a Zeiss Distagon 35. That Zeiss will get way more use than the 50 and 75. As much as I enjoyed the organic rendering of the 50, it's too slow for my purposes, as I shoot a lot in low light and want more speed than f3.5. The collapsible design is kind of fun and helps keep the lens size down, but the locking infinity tab and overall design doesn't work well for me. And I stopped using the 75 LTM after I got a Summarit 75. Yeah, I've taken some good pictures with both, but they get no use, and I have no real sentimental attachment to them. The Zeiss is going to get heaps of use.

Sometimes you go in bursts. I photographed almost every day for a couple of years. Then, for the past year at least, I haven't taken a single photograph. However, I've found that if I sell a camera, I probably will regret it. In fact, due to the fact that I sold my cameras when I was financially strapped, I have a very negative psychological association with selling my cameras. So, I don't sell, and I gradually increase my hoard.

I sold my Nikon F3 with MD4 motor, SW-6 finder and a bunch of screens, the databack etc., for almost nothing. Now I've bought 3 Nikon F3 to make up for my loss psychologically.

I still miss my silver chrome Leica M7 0.85 that I had Leica upgrade the finder to the MP version. I was planning on buying another one, then Leica stopped making them!
