I like it.
You've framed all the elements nicely in this composition.
My eye is looking at all parts of the image rather than being pulled or distracted to one area.
Success 🙂

Reminiscent of Siskind. No?

I think the image works well as B+W, I doubt it would as color.

To my feeble mind, the composition is engaging. Others are more qualified to discuss deeper...

Maybe not exactly art gallery valuable 🙂, but nice bw rendering, plus, it is very interesting in details. Intriguing, I say, due to shadows bars and reflection.

I like it; the picture has a lot of interesting elements. I find my eyes being drawn to the upper left corner where a "pinhole-esque" subimage is. I like that portion of the image a lot.

Joe,

Since you asked, I would say that on a technical level the image is a success. It's well exposed and there is a nice use of the shadow lines to direct the eye. I'm a bit bothered by the torn notice and the reflection. The notice is telling a story. Someone or some entity has moved. I'd like to know more of the story. The reflections of the trees and buildings (?) aren't clear enough to see what they are, so they're somewhat disturbing. I feel as though something is happening in the image but I can't make it out, so I'm left feeling let down.

I like the texture in particular--always like being challenged by texture--is it dust? snow? frost? And I love the multiple image layers within the frame. Though something about the printed notice finally takes it from the land of poetry to rather uninteresting prose. I guess the text just doesn't add any mystery.

Love it, Joe! The composition is great as it engages my eye and makes me explore all areas of the photo. The tonality is wonderful and I like how gritty it is. "Geeks", "moving", "location", "valued" makes me wonder what the note actually meant. Unfortunately, the photo doesn't give an answer and I am left wondering. I think this photo could work better in a series that tells a coherent story.

Put me in like very much group also. I like the reflections and the implied transparency. Really nice tones and the images that start forming like the ghost face right bottom with the arrow pointing at it. I keep seeing more in it the more time I spend with it. Good eye to see this Joe and very well executed.

Hard to read, took me some time to figure it out. Therefore it doesn't have that grab-appeal.
Once figured out, it doesn't have much to offer.
That's just my opinion/taste, and I know you'd appreciate honesty.

this is a straight shot with very little photo shopping done to it...pretty much out of camera.
it's a closed store front door window pane. someone sprayed it with some sort of frosting to stop folks from looking into it. lower left shows a clear spot where someone must have rubbed against it, top left is a reflection of the shops across the street. clearly the paper stuck to the window indicating that the store had moved is ripped...

for me, this is not a 'wow' image but one that i like more & more the more i view it...i find myself not interested in pics that show a whole scene or that might tell a story...but i am much more interested in vignettes that show only part of the whole and that make the viewer think about what it is or what is going on...

It's very good that you are looking past first subject and incorporate the background. It makes the picture richer and visually more interesting.
It would also be good to tie the foreground and background, in my opinion.
Something alone this lines, if I may.

I think it lacks something interesting, like a subject, concept, or whatever else goes into a great photograph. Ripped paper ads on a wall? Gritty b&w conversion? See what I mean?
You didn't even bother to think about adding interest with composition techniques. It's a total write off in my books. We only get better when we push ourselves, and people stop complimenting on crap. Get back out there and try again, but this time read about composition, creating interest first. Even most mundane things can be photographed in an interesting way.

I agree with Andy and vthokiee. And where Tom And scapegoat sees shortcomings, that's what makes this a great photograph. It's a combination that reflects, no pun intended, impermanence and life.

i generally agree with Scapevision & FrankS. I dont even know what the content or intent of this image is supposed to be. To me, everything about it is distracting of everything else, and not in a complementary manner. It certainly doesnt evoke anything in me other than trying to read the signs and parse together what the full message might have been. The texture & reflection on the frosted glass is interesting, but nowhere near enough to carry this image. The design is also weak in this image, in my opinion.

There are elements that on their own are worth further exploration, but as a whole, and as a single image, this isnt something I'd feel like sharing or putting my name on. I would file this away as a learning experience to build upon.

For me, I do not understand the image. It seems that the torn paper and, as a consequence, the split printed message has some "meaning" which is apparently the reason or the cause of the taking of this photograph.
However, I do not understand the underlying cultural background explaining why this photograph has been taken.
I do not understand what is the essence of the subject which is revealed by the "shape" or "form" as appearing on this photograph.

I really like the way the light propagates on this scene. The tonality is very good. These aesthetic elements leave me wanting for content that is worthy.
