Sponsorship announcement
I am very excited to announce that we have our first sponsor for the RFF Canada meet: Mike Boylan from Blazes Photographic!
Mike has been selling professional photographic products in Toronto since 1979, and has earned a reputation as trusted and knowledgeable photographic advisor in the Toronto photographic community.
Mike Boylan operates Blazes Photographic, a recognised Canadian importer of products from some of the biggest names in the industry: Profoto Lighting, Linhof, Rollei (now Franke & Heidecke), Silvestri Camera, and Hans O. Mahn (Maco and Rollei-branded films, paper, and chemistry). Although Blazes Photographic focuses on importing and distributing to dealers across Canada, Mike is always glad to provide top-notch service to his individual customers.
Thank you, Mike!

Montreal is definitely the city. No firm agenda yet, but the rough idea is to spend all day taking photographs, and all night eating and drinking.
we should consider booking accomodations soon
I'm not sure if I'll have a car because I might take the VIA into the city. If I stay near St. Catharines and Crescent St. would that be a central location for the weekend?

Hey Yanks, do you have your passport yet? You will need a passport to return to the states if you are heading to Montreal this May. I just checked out the State Department web site and they are quoting an 8 week processing time for passports!!!!
I will have my application in by the end of the week, time is short if you are planning on attending and want to come home afterwards.

Only necessary if you are flying in/out. By ground, not yet required. My next door neighbour abhors the passport. She started using it (thinking it would be more efficnet), but as it provides "better" tracking, the last US border nazi decided that she had used it too often, grilled her on why she visited her "friends" so often, rifled through her trunk, backseat, etc., on absolutely no reasonable grounds. (She fits no profile for anything.) He even grilled her on EVERY key on her keychain. Apparently he thought he proved how big his d!C% is, though.rover said:Hey Yanks, do you have your passport yet? I will have to check that out myself. If my wife does it for me there is no way I can be sure her answer will mean she just doesn't want me to return.Only necessary if you are flying in/out. By ground, not yet required.

Its always interesting to see how people use power when they are given it. Most fail miserably.
Well, I think you are right about not needing a passport if you are not flying into/out of Canada. I did submit my passport application today and I asked the passport agent (the guy at the post office) and he said it is not necessary for ground travel until next year. I did not get a chance to confirm that directly on the State Department web site, but if the mail man says it is so.......

i need to start some planning for this fling in montreal.
i'm wondering when other people are planning on arriving in the city?
friday morning or night, saturday sometime?
and leaving on sunday or monday.
i admit to being selfish here and not wanting to miss anything.

I plan to leave home on Saturday morning by either train or drive... that should get me to Montreal by 2pm.
Hanging out for a while then heading home Monday morning.

I'll do my best to make sure that everything we do is accessible by Métro, so there should be no need for any cars. I don't want to be personally shuttling anybody around, and honestly, driving on the island ain't that much fun!Rob Skeoch said:I'm not sure if I'll have a car because I might take the VIA into the city. There is a pretty solid chance that I will not be working during this time, so if anybody wants to come on Friday, I can probably play host then, too. For those who arrive on Saturday, I'll be sure to send out contact information before the event, so that we stand a chance of meeting up sometime during the day.back alley said:i need to start some planning for this fling in montreal.
