I recently purchased a 100mm F2 lens and it is in ex condition overall.
I finally got a chance to try it out today and noticed a problem: the helical seems rotating without problem but the RF mechanism is not triggered in any of my cameras ---> rangefinder patch won't move. I have tried the lens on all my canon rangefinder cameras, leica m2,m3,m4 with adapters.
Any idea where the problem could be? I don't see any obvious physical damage on the lens or the mount.

I've had that on some other lenses. You need to lube the "RF tongue", it's stuck. The piece of brass that rides on the helical and connects to the camera roller. The best way for this is to take it out, never done this on a Canon 100/2, though.

Thanks Roland. I did see that "tongue" you are referring to. Is it suppose to be mobile? (move in and out? ) It looks pretty dry.

Thanks again

Observe the tongue whilst moving the focus helical. Yes, it should move. On my 100mm F2 Canon, it is fully extended at infinity focus, and disappears when the helical is moved to closeup focus. Sound like it might need CLA.

on the nikkor lenses the tounge slides in a dovetail . it is propably stuck in the farest out position . on a nikkor 135 i was able to push it gently back in . after working the focus many times it was free again . not sure if canon lenses work in the same manner .
